Windows 10: KB4517389

Not a question so much as my solution and my complaint. I queried to community about problems I was having with this update and got many suggestions but the only one that worked was to go into my update history and delete it. As we all know, this isn't the first time that Microsoft has bolluxed up the works by letting an update out that was full of bugs and I doubt it will be the last. There are several articles about it on Forbes. Always before with every Windows program I have had and that goes way back to 2,000 and XP we were able to choose which updates we thought were necessary. With 10 we have no choice. good bad or indifferent, Microsoft just plugs them in. This is supposed to change in 2020 but I am sure there will be some way to mess it up. At any rate, if you are having problems with this update, your computer is running as slowly as if syrup was poured into it, I suggest you delete it and complain to the source. They are still saying that there are only a few computers affected and are not aware of any problems.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, none of these suggestions fixed the problem.

Method 1 (PowerShell command): error persists

Method 2 (Safe Mode, Clean Mode): I did this before, but tried again. As before, in SafeMode, the Start Menu does not work at all, although it gives no error message. In Clean Mode, the error message appears when accessing the Start Menu.

Method 3 (create new account): error persists

I have uninstalled KB4517389 yet again. Everything works as it should.

I don't know if this is relevant, but the previous update, KB4524147, started this problem.
KB4524147 affected BOTH my print spooler and my Start Menu. I uninstalled it and I noticed that
KB4524147 disappeared from the update list when I next checked for updates.

KB4517389 does not affect my printer, but it does generate that Critical Error when accessing the Start Menu. I hope that there's a fix soon.

Try downloading and installing those updates from the offline installers which are available on the Microsoft Catalog

If you still cannot install those using that method, you can hide those updates to stop them from attempting to install on each system boot
