KB4586781 fails to install with error 0x800f0922 and bloats my drive

This error repeats no matter the methods I've tried. When ran through settings, it installs and pends restart. So, I do that and upon reboot it fails to update and reverts changes.

I moved a 48 gig sized game from the system drive to another, in belief that the remaining space didn't suffice and ran the update again. Same result and from now on every time I've tried the update, the drive seems to bloat with 2 gigs. So I cannot return the game back to SSD either now.

I also tried with manual installation from update catalogue and as last resort ran the in-place upgrade, the former resulting in the same revert state and the latter gave an error that it could not detect if my device is compatible with Windows 10. Yet, in update settings I'm prompted to update to 20H2, as if my setup is compatible. The in-place upgrade downloaded fully but didn't clean up after itself once it failed to detect the compatibility.

    Running Windows 10 Pro, 2004.

I've tried all the methods in the book, disk clean-up, malware scan and emptying softwaredistribution folder and whatnot, to open up space, but I can't get back to the state where I started from. The disk is too full to put the 48 gig game back in it.

    Any assistance?

At this point clean install seems to be the option, but I'm still hopeful I could be educated what this error code indicates and if I could receive the lost space back too.

    :)

  2. KB4565633 Fails to Install Returns Error Code: 0x800f0922

    Hi, BM

    Checking .NET Framework

One of the possible culprits behind this problem is .NET Framework. So, one of the ways to get rid of the Windows 10 update error 0x800f0922 is installing the latest version of .NET Framework. Moreover, you should activate
it in Windows Features. You can do those by following these instructions:

    1. On your keyboard, press Windows Key+S.
    2. Type “Windows Features” (no quotes).
    3. Select ‘Turn Windows Features on or off’ from the results
    1. Select the options related to .NET Framework.
    2. Click OK to save your selection.
    3. Restart your computer

    Sorry for numbering error..

if these steps doesn't work then

You can perform a offline update

  3. windows update KB3197954 fails to install with error 0x800F0922

I recently have the Windows 8.1 update failing continuously at 98%.

    The errors in C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log were:

[AU_SHUTDOWN_INSTALL_FAILED] 101 {F8C84DA5-5880-403A-B908-64E113527A12} 219 800f0922 AutomaticUpdates Failure Content Install Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with
    error 0x800f0922

    The error in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log was:

    Error CSI 0000015d@2017/5/3:13:07:13.557 (F) base\wcp\plugins\bfsvc\bfsvc.cpp(218): Error HRESULT_FROM_WIN32(ERROR_DISK_FULL) originated in function Windows::WCP::Bfsvc::BasicInstaller::Install expression: HRESULT_FROM_WIN32(GetLastError())
    [gle=0x80004005]

I had two partitions of my disk and both of them had plenty of free space.

The error was due to the fact that the hidden recovery / MBR partition was full. I had to delete some files that were copied there by a tool I used to backup partitions.

Basically here are the steps I used:

    - Input “cmd” into Windows search box and open the Command Prompt as an administrator.

    - Then type “diskpart”.

    - Type “list disk” command to list all your hard disks in the computer.

    - Input “select disk n”, where is n is the number of the hard disk that the recovery partition on it.

    - Type “list partition” to show all the partitions on the selected hard disk.

    - Type “select partition m”, where m is the number of the recovery partition.

    - Then type “assign”: the system will assign a drive letter automatically.

After these commands, you can see the recovery partition in Windows Explorer (try refresh if the partition is still not visible). You can see how much free space is left and, if necessary, do some cleaning (just make sure you know what you delete).
In my case, I had 70 K free from a total of 350 M. Once I did the cleaning, it showed 290 M free.

Then you have to hide the recovery partition: basically the same as the steps of unhide, the only different is the last step: type “remove letter=e”, the e is the drive letter of the recovery partition.

After this, I was able to install the updates with no error.

  4. KB4586781 fails to install with error 0x800f0922 and bloats my drive

Cumulative Update Fails with Error - 0x800F0922

    Hello Marvin,

Yes. I am still working on this issues. One Microsoft site mentioned that the error 0x800F0922 was caused by space issue on the "system reserved partition. I downloaded a tool to increase the size but it did not help.

I'm out of options right now. Any suggestions?

The update installs fine but after the reboot when it's installing updates, it fails over there.
