Windows 10: KB4598242 Corrupting User Profiles & Generally Screwing Windows 10

This update, KB4598242, you guys gotta stop pushing it, it's breaking machines & corrupting the holy hell out of user profiles. This supposed security update has taken my $5,000 plus machine and made it nigh-on unresponsive. The desktop does not load properly, the taskbar fails to load properly, the clocks are different on different monitors and fail to update properly, I now have a system interrupts section in my process Explorer where I had none, and the mouse is lagging horribly. Better yet, I can't even open Windows settings to attempt to fix it, as any core Windows process is struggling to function.


Here's the really funny part though- it's only my main user profile in which this is happening. I ctrl-alt-del and the mouse IMMEDIATELY starts behaving, and the secondary admin profile I have in case of emergencies is working fine. So uh yeah, maybe make sure your security patches don't also introduce massive systems instability, because based on the contents of this patch it makes sense what I'm seeing. Interrupts where there were none after you guys claimed to improve security with devices and basic operations means this is clearly on your guys's end, to the point where the operating system is struggling to function. Here's hoping rolling back the update gets me back to where I was.

Corrupted User Profile

Hi,

There maybe a couple of reasons behind this misbehavior such as a corrupted system file. However, we would like to be able to verify which process exactly is corrupted.

• When you install, does it give you any form of error message when it fails?
• What other processes doesn't go through on the said User account?

Likhitha V's response on this thread. See if it applies to you. However,
just to give you a heads up. The steps are about creating a new user profile and deleting the current one. I suggest you back up your files so you may be able to transfer it. You can also find information about it on the same thread.

It is possible that this issue is due to the corrupted user profile. To properly troubleshoot the issue, kindly verify the following:

• Have you tried using another user profile and test the issue?
• Have you tried performing a clean boot to eliminate software conflicts?
• Have you tried running System File Checker to check for any file corruption?
