  3. Another benefit of using VMs for testing.
If it "dies", you don't need to panic.

What? you mean I don't end up with a dead PC thats bricked permanently? *Eek

The article mentions the builds get bricked which means irreversible damage hence a dead PC right? Oh wait, I think it was just my brain that got bricked by such a retarded article *sarc

UEFI and protected disk + Bitlocker can really make problems if OS expires and will not boot. "Luckily" windows will start nagging in advance.

Why do I get the feeling that so many people running Windows 10 TP, don't really understand what Beta Testing is all about?

It is not now and never was supposed to be anyone's MAIN OS.

I remember on the old Windows 8 forum, where I was a moderator, daily we had to remind people coming on the forum that Windows 8 Beta, was NOT a free new OS, but a Beta Release for testing purposes only.
At the time, even Microsoft on their download page, would tell people to NOT install the Beta versions over their main OS on their computers. And every day someone would come on the forum wanting to know how to get their Windows 7, Vista or XP back.
    There was NO return path!

Every time I get a new Build of Windows 10 TP, I back up the version I'm currently running on my TEST PC, and then install the new build, letting the installer re-Format the C: partition where the new build will install.
This totally prevents any Blending of the new Build with a previous build.
I try to run every build as if it were coming to me on a brand new store-bought computer. To do otherwise, defeats the whole purpose of Beta Testing.

I don't know, what some folks purpose is in even being involved in the Beta Testing process, because they certainly don't have the technical expertise to do it effectively. By the time that the current Builds expire, we should all be 'over it', and either running the full release of Windows 10, or back to our OS of choice.

It may be several years, before I will be running Windows 10 as my everyday OS, but in the mean time, I'm quite happy with XP, Win-7 and Win-8.1. With 8.1 being the best performer on many PC's.

Sorry, I didn't find the magazine article to be in any way offensive. Maybe WE don't need to even read it, but there are thousands of maybe millions of others who do.

    Y'all have a great day now, Y'hear?

    *Cool

I can remember testing Vista and MS would send me the DVD's. Those days are gone.

Yeah, I remember that. What with the Internet of today, though, it doesn't take all that long to download the bits. I can remember starting a download in the evening and hoping against hope that it would be finished by morning. And that my computer wouldn't crash during the night!

Yup, those were the good old days! *Smile Yeah, right . . .

I've always wondered how burning and mailing out thousands of DVDs would compare to maintaining servers capable of serving thousands of people with downloadable ISOs cost wise.

I'd say that doing it dual-boot was a bit better, since then Win10 is running natively and there are no bugs introduced by the VM. Of course, the downside is rebooting...but both my 8.1 & Win10 Preview boot very fast (at least in comparison with Win7 & earlier.)

Yes, PC World has been a closet Apple shill & anti-Microsoft groupie for as long as I can remember. If there's a way to take a positive story and twist it into a negative, PC World will find it. Lots of sites engage in sensationalism and phony stories to generate page hits...I stay far away from them...!

This PC World "story" is just plain stupid...very nearly braindead, imo.

Dunno about the comparison, but I do know that Microsoft contracted out the burning and distribution of the DVDs. *Smile

Thinking about it further, I believe there are several millions of Insiders.

As an aside, one of the times I visited Microsoft as an MVP and another reason or two, a group of us were taken into the server "room". There were rows and rows and rows of computers stacked, if I remember correctly, about three or four high. I believe we were told this was only one of many rooms just like it.
