Keep windows license when replacing hard drive

I have had a broken PC with a corrupt HDD hard drive for a while. I've been thinking about replacing its hard drive recently. I don't need the data in it, but if i buy a new hard drive, can I still have a windows license and stuff like that?

    :)

Windows Licensing - Hard drive replaced

I had a laptop for 2 years and was originally on a Windows 8.1 OS. When Windows 10 came out, I installed it for free and it was great. Then my hard drive broke down, so I got it replaced. Now I'm getting reminders that I need a product key for Windows 10
Licensing. What happens if I leave it? And if I want to fix it, would I need to purchase a new license or could I retrieve the license from the old hard drive?

    Hi,

System corruption can cause issues detecting your computer's hard drive. For us to properly investigate on your concern, we'd like to confirm the following information:

    • On which cases do you receive the startup error?
    • Aside from replacing the hard drive, have you made any significant changes to your device prior to this happening?
    • Have you tried plugging in the replaced hard drive to another computer to check if the same thing occurs?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

We will be waiting for your reply so we can move forward to resolving your query.
