Windows 10: keeps saying everything im trying to download is a virus

hello, I am currently trying to download visual studio, but when I try to download it. it cancels and tells me a virus is detected.this is not the first time and lately I havent been able to download anything from the internet, even though I know it's a completly safe program.I do have a VPN, and before I got it I didnt have this problem. can someone help me fix this problem?thanks in advance.

However, please let us know:

• May I know the program that you are trying to download?
• Which browser are you using?
• Are you able to download any other programs?

I would suggest you to try using a different browser like Microsoft Edge and see if that helps.



If you are receiving this error while using Google Chrome, I would suggest you to refer the section
"Virus scan failed" or "Virus detected" in the article Fix file download errors
and see if that helps.



Note: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow
these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

Step 1.

I suggest you to go through the powershell command and try the steps.

• Open the Task manager. Here’s a tip: Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.
  
• Click on File tab and select Run New Task.
  
• Make sure you have a check mark beside Create this task with administrative privileges.
  
• Type Powershell.
• Type the following in the Powershell prompt:
  
  $manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest
  
• Close the Powershell window
• Reboot the computer for the changes to take effect.

If the issue still persist, try the below steps:

Step 2.

I would recommend you to the Run the Internet connections troubleshooter and check. Please follow these steps:

• 
  Type troubleshooting in the Windows search box on the taskbar.
  
• 
  Click on troubleshooting in the search results.

  Click "View all" and then click "Internet Connections".
