  1. Kernel-Power crash 41 (63)

Last week I bought a new case for my PC, because the old one was old and the fans were dying out and whatever. On 1/15, 2 days later, I tried playing CS:GO and would crash a few minutes into game. It would just entirely restart with no BSOD. I noticed my CPU temps were really high and I was running a stock cooler, so I bought a CM Hyper 512 EVO and installed it, and temps leveled out on my CPU. Then, I tried playing Planetside 2 tonight and started crashing again. I monitored temps, CPU temps never went above 45 and GPU temps never above ~62. But the crashing continued. Where should I start? I checked my event logs which gave me the error of Kernel-Power 41 (63). Apparently this had happened before back in October/November once or twice but I don't remember it and it was not nearly this often. I've gotten the crash 8 times between the two nights of trying to game. Other games are running fine (Witcher 3, League of Legends) without crashes. I did remove the overclocks from my GPU before the second crash. I ran memtest86 and a burn-in CPU test, and both came back clean. Where should I go next?

    Specs:
    i5 4430/CM Hyper 512 EVO
    Gigabyte z87-d3hp
    Kingston HyperX 1x8gb
    MSI GTX 970
    Cooler Master Master Case 5
    Antec(?) PSU I think, I don't remember and can't check atm. I believe it's a 700w.
Have a shitty PCI wifi card, the brand I don't remember.
    Windows 10 Home Premium x64

I still suggest you download Speccy and upload a copy of the report it produces to OneDrive. To obtain a report select File,
Save as Text file. It helps to obtain the report at a time when the system is under pressure and temperatures may be higher than normal

  4. Kernel-Power crash 41 (63)

Hello tyler and welcome to Tenforums! *Smile

I've looked through your files and what I would recommend you to do is to update your system BIOS as it is not the latest version and by looking at the Gigabyte Support download page, you are trailing 3 steps behind.

So please head on over to Gigabyte's Support download page:
    http://www.gigabyte.fi/products/prod...?pid=4519#bios

And download the latest BIOS update, install it and report back if you've got any questions.

You can install Gigabyte's App Center that has a tool called @BIOS if you are uncertain on how to flash the BIOS, here is a pdf on how to use it:
    http://www.gigabyte.fi/webpage/20/im...tiy_atbios.pdf

    Cheers

  5. I ran the update through their @Bios utility. I'll try to run some of the games that were crashing me later tonight and check back if I have any problems.

Just out of curiosity, if the bios update solves it, what was the problem?

And thanks for the warm welcome! *Smile

  6. Okay nice.

Well there were a few updates but one of them added support for the 4th generation of Intel Core processors. So that would explain your big crashes!

Oh and you are most welcome! *Wink

  7. The issue began again today. It hadn't completely gone away but I hadn't been gaming heavily enough for it to occur often.

Far Cry 4 crashes the second I open it, in the exact same fashion it used to. I double checked and the bios update was in place. I tried disabling my overclocks again, which didn't help. Is it possible my PSU is dying out and that's why this is happening? And if that's the case, is it possible it's damaging my system?

    EDIT
Is it possible it's a bad connection to the GPU? I just remembered that my PSU doesn't actually have an 8-pin mATX connection, so I had to use an adapter from a 6-pin. Could that be it?

New power supply solved all problems, and system seems significantly more stable.

  11. I went with the EVGA 600B, cheap yet effective enough.
