Well....it did it again this morning.
I have been conversing with ASUS support about this as well. They seem to think this is a hardware problem.
They haven't specified which hardware but they suggest that I send it in for repair.

I hate to do it. This is my first ASUS machine. I fear they will keep it for months before returning it.

    Double posting isn't needed *Wink

Can ASUS explain why they think it is a hardware issue?
@lsvet1, a desktop driver is different from a laptop driver, little chance the cause for you is the same for the OP.

I'm sorry. Didn't even realized I posted it twice.

    No, she didn't elaborate.
I honestly think they don't know. She just suggested that I send it in so "Their engineers could better diagnose the problem".
And she mentioned that it could possibly be a hardware problem.

I have since uninstalled everything that I absolutely do not use. I even uninstalled the Nvidia and Intel graphics control software.
My installed software list is very short now. *Smile

I am gonna try that for awhile.

It's strange because I was getting the crash on a regular basis. Then after your suggestion of removing Avast, it absolutely stopped, with exception of it failing during a boot here and there. And I guess I could just deal with it. After rebooting it works fine. I have no loss of productivity whatsoever. But its just the principal of it. I spent $1500 on a machine that I expect it to handle what I throw at it.
AS I mentioned I have always bought Dell products and I never had a problem. As much as I love this machine, it does make it feel kind of less than in my view.

What is your suggestion, Axe? Is there anything else you can think of that I can try?
Should I try sending it in and risk the horror stories that I have heard in the past?
I bought it from Amazon. I could still send it back for a refund. Maybe put a few bucks with my refund and buy something else?

I would like to take a look at the files from the dm log collector to see if I can find anything useful.

Only 1 driver seems updated, have you tried to reinstall the ATK app?

  11. scottbg1 Win User
Yes. I have the latest version installed that I could find.
It's worth mentioning that I was still having the faults without the ATK app installed.
I reinstalled it thinking it didn't make a difference. I use some of its keyboard features.
    Should I uninstall it?

It would be good to uninstall it while troubleshooting yes.

Well, we're back to crashing in the middle in of a video editing session, and not just on a boot up.

But you'll be glad to know that I have remedied this nightmare.
I have sent the laptop back.
It will never, ever, ever, ever crash on me again.....ever!

With that, I am not gonna trash this whole series of laptop from Asus.
I hope that mine was just a lemon. Of all the reading I have done on this particular subject, one consistent detail that I have discovered that is affiliated with these types of crashes is memory. And because the Memory modules in this machine are soldered, i suspect that there my be a quality control issue with mine. Though it's just a guess. I have run several tests on mine, from mem diagnostics to bench tests that stressed the memory in hopes that it would fail but it never did.

Besides, my worst fear was that we would have discovered that it was software conflicts and I would have had to run only a certain combination of things to avoid failure. I don't want to have to do that. I should be able to darn well run anything I want and it not fail on me, like every other computer I have ever owned.

Again, I hate this. This ZenBook is the nicest machine I have ever owned. It's sleek and classy. And it's phenomenally fast!
From the time I hit the power button to desktop is about 8 seconds and its ready to go.

Axe, thank you for the time and effort you put in trying to help me.
It is much appreciated. You sir are a scholar and a gentleman.

How would have me mark this thread? Mark as solved, (though in truth it isn't) or just leave it to be buried?

    Happy New Year.

I think it was your graphic driver. if u google 361.43 driver you will find lots of ppl having problem with the driver (Windows 10 freezes when on battery in my case)
this is how you have to remove the driver
    1. download 359.06 driver
    2. in installation window choose custom and from there put a tick on this Clean installation Option ! see if it work
