Windows 10: KERNEL_SECURITY CHECK_FAILURE installing PotPlayer

When I run the installer for PotPlayer (http://get.daum.net/PotPlayer64/v3/PotPlayerSetup64.exe), it gets most of the way through the installation and then BSODs with a KERNEL_SECURITY CHECK_FAILURE. This is 100% repeatable and crashes in the same way each time. Just to be on the safe side, I have updated my video and WiFi drivers. WinDbg doesn't seem to point to any particular driver, but I admit that I am clueless when it comes to WinDbg. Hopefully someone here can shed some light!

Missing Windows 10 DVD Player after upgrade

It's not that good anyway. Install a 3rd party program, like VLC player, or Potplayer

 

Windows 10 15063.11 Potplayer not working

I just installed Windows 10 build 15063.11 /fresh install/ and potplayer stopped working. In older builds there are not any problem.

Run HDTune to

• scan for errors, no quick scan but full scan
• check the health,
• benchmark.

It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
Let me know what the results are

• of the error scan,
• make a screenshot of the health of every hard drive and post the screenshots,
• post screenshots with the benchmark of the
  • transfer rate,
  • access time,
  • burst rate,
  • cpu usage.

The only system drive is an SSD, so I skipped the SeaTools step per your instructions.

chkdsk reported no errors.

I have attached the results from HDTune. No errors were found. Please note that this SSD uses NVMe rather than SATA, and I have found that tools like HDTune and SpeedFan cannot read SMART information from it.

Warning Please make a backup of your important files and get your rescue media or create one.
Please create a restore point.
Please follow this tutorial to run driver verifier.

Driver verifier stresses your drivers and will crash your pc if any driver fails due to a violation.

Driver verifier should be performed for a max of 48 hours, or when you have a bluescreen, whatever comes first.

If driver verifier has found a violation and you can't get back into windows normally, try to boot into safe mode and reset in safe mode driver verifier, or in the troubleshooting options open command prompt and type verifier /reset.



Note Your system will act very sluggishly while driver verifier is enabled, this is normal as your drivers will be being subjected to heavy testing in order to make them crash.

 

Thanks for your efforts, but I was able to work around the problem.

My solution was disabling both of my graphics adapters in Device Manager (causing them to use the default Microsoft graphics driver), then installing PotPlayer (which worked just fine), then re-enabling both of my graphics adapters. In light of this, it looks as if it was some problem with one of the graphics drivers. Everything seems to be working fine now -- I'll be on the lookout for the problem to occur again.

 

Are you using both your graphics cards?

 

Yes. This is a laptop with a hybrid Intel/NVIDIA graphics setup, so it uses the Intel graphics processor for regular desktop applications and the NVIDIA GPU for gaming.

 

Switching between GPU's sometimes causes problems due to the problem of the switching feature.
I haven't seen it happen that switching between GPU's has been properly implemented.

i have same ploblem too *Confused dont' know why

i use asus laptop intel hd family + nvidia 745m

now i use media player classic from k-lite codec *Biggrin

 

One year later and your not so "cheesy" workaround is still working *Biggrin
I'm pretty sure something is wrong with NVIDIA's Optimus drivers and they don't bother fixing it.
