    THIS IS CRITICAL.
Axe, Axe, Axe - please read post 24. I can't believe you didn't see it.
Especially since you volunteer your time and expertise, you are great, and I appreciate what you are doing for me. You continue to ignore one critical question, which is at the root of my issues. When you read that post, you will be more up to date. Thank you.

I did not forget about it, I only wrote what happens during the process of uninstallation/reinstallation of a 3rd party AV.

Revo uninstaller removes all traces from a program, but it only deletes everything from the program and not from a company.

I thought I'd answered it, anyway you can only revert back the changes without resetting/refreshing or clean installing with a backup or restore point prior the period of use. If no backup/restore point is available then there is no other way than (clean) reinstalling Windows or however one want to call it.

The SFC result I mentioned in post #21, the UAC setting is similar to mine which is good.
DISM is mostly used when SFC cannot fix because of a corrupted source, DISM fixes the corrupted source so SFC can continue fixing the corruption, I did not mention it like that you need to upload it but only that I can read them a small bit. I said it because I thought you had new SFC results that said corruption could not be fixed.

The long generic test takes indeed a lot of time, but it scan thoroughly.
Yes I would like you to run chkdsk even if the long generic test has passed.
Yes I would like you to run HDTune, HDTune provides a benchmark & health overview + a visual error scan.
With all the results I can much better say if a drive is or is not failing/faulty and if it is possible to fix any problem.
It happened a lot that chkdsk does not find problems & HDTune does not, but SeaTools does and the final result is a hard drive that could not be used anymore.
It also happened a lot that chkdsk and SeaTools could not detect problems, but HDTune could because the benchmark results were indicating a failing hard drive. A failing hard drive can be caused by the amount of bad sectors, health and/or the speed of reading/writing data, but it must be noted that if either occurs another one does not have to show problems which is why I would like to have results of all the tests.

Could you be more specific please, I've read that post a dozen times but I cannot see what you want me to see specificly unless you mean the question about the Windows Update.
The answer for that question is, an update doesn't have to be whitelisted, any AV can scan everything present on the hard drive so it is not something to be worried about. If an AV sees it as a threat then there is something seriously wrong with the AV.

Why is it so special that I didn't mention it?

  4. Kernel_security_check_failure

Because I crashed (BSOD) with the programs uninstalled and Flash on. Why don't you think it's notable?

For the record, we are talking about the Windows Update question? All questions at the same time and through each other make it very difficult to help properly. Though not a huge problem but I would ask that you do not answer in the quote, that makes it unreadable and makes it possible for things to be missed.

How I would do it is either make a list of it all or quote lines, answer below the quote and add a new quote below the answer like in my posts.

  6. Axe0,

Post 24 does not include any of your quotes. I was going to repost it, but it doesn't need fixing.
So, italicizing my response under yours doesn't help.
In email, I usually change the font and make it bold.
    Or I change the color.

Yes, we are talking about MS (microsoft) May Cumulative Update, the flicker on my webcam just before a BSOD, and crashing after uninstalling the five programs.

    Thank you.

If you don't mind I would like to focus on 1 thing at a time *Smile
I'll let you choose what is most important to get fixed a.s.a.p. as I cannot decide.

    Axe0,

Before I met you, the Firefox tech suggested that I change Flash to "Ask to Activate" to stop the crashes. I know you prefer that setting. My steps below.
I changed the plugin behavior and uninstalled the five programs before I tried to use Firefox/outlook.com.
The BSODs stopped. (That's why I asked you if Shockwave could have caused the crashes.)
I never rolled back drivers, but I asked you about it (then I forgot - we forgot).

    See POST 24.
What I forgot - this is IMPORTANT. We both forgot:
I asked you after the BSODs stopped if should still rollback the drivers.
If I do, then I imagine my optimum choice is to refresh Win10, which was updated around 1/22/16. Part of the original troubleshooting precluded my upgrade. Then my computer had to be prepared to accept Win10.

How would you suggest I determine which 24 drivers I need to rollback?

As an aside, I have an Iobit diagnostic zip. Is this of value? Everything else is in Recycle Bin.

***After updating to Firefox Beta v47.0 on Friday, it was continuously freezing. ("Firefox not responding.")
    I had to fix it.
I restored passwords, profiles, bookmarks, etc. After Restart, Shockwave reverted to Always Activate, so I just had a BSOD. I'm causing problems by deleting everything in sight.

With this condensed news, what do YOU SUGGEST?
    Thank you.

I forget because I cannot keep remembering all problems you experience, it is why I prefer to focus on 1 at a time while I know that other things need to be dealt with too but at a later time.

If I were you I would remove EVERYTHING from IObit, the programs, logs and all other related things. If that would require for me a clean installation I would do it immediately (but that is me)

Do you have a list of these 24 drivers? In many cases the drivers can be reinstalled from the right source, in other cases it could be done through the roll back function in device manager that you can find in the device properties.
Unfortunately the driver update programs attempt to replace Windows drivers too sometimes, I've recently checked that in 1 of my VMs so a list of the drivers would help.
    Attachment 84775

I would reinstall Firefox as a first step instead.

  10. I removed the programs upon your initial request. I think/hope Revo uninstalled what I could not - except I just cleaned out another .exe folder in Downloads. AXE0 - why does it take three or more uninstalls?

I checked ALL of my drivers BEFORE I ever used Driver Booster and was told that ALL drivers were up to date.
I don't know what to say.

I think I should do a refresh. Please state your reason for install vs refresh.
I need a list of apps to immediately remove from my computer. Is there a way to get rid of Cortana?
I'll aim to do it after work today.

I reinstalled Firefox. It seems that over the past year or two (maybe even longer), I am installing every new updated FF version a minimum of three times.
Why would you think that I didn't install it?

Your driver screenshot shows a date of 2006, not 2016. Wouldn't I have a record of any/all Windows updates?

    Thank you.

Revo does not always remove everything, when it doesn't remove everything the user is notified that leftovers are still there that can be removed manually.

Did you check in device manager? Device manager rarely does say that updates are available.

I have stated a reason for a clean install at the beginning of this thread and in post 37. I also described the difference between a refresh and reset here as you asked for.
Cortana cannot be removed, it is deeply imbedded in Windows and as such you can only disable it or it is better to use a different Windows version or a different OS.

The date displayed is incorrect. The screenshot shows the 'date' of the built-in keyboard drivers from Windows (kbdclass.sys & kbdhid.sys). Checking these drivers in Windows Explorer in directory %systemroot%\system32\drivers\ shows that they are from October 30th 2015. Why device manager shows the date incorrect I don't know, but you can assume it is incorrect because else many systems would be very unstable and Windows wouldn't be used by so many users.

  14. I don't know how you you reply to one question at a time like you do. Is this what "Multi-quote" looks like? I've never seen that before today.

With Revo, I meant even with the manual removal, I still found more files while in Search.

Yes, with Device Manager, tested one at a time.
I agree with you on clean install. The driver issue is now moot.

I don't know why I asked about Windows updates - I know how to find them. When I remember my point, I'll say something.

    Thank you.

I select the question, click the quote button and copy/paste the question in the quote tag code, then I write my reply below.

The recommended source for laptops is the laptop manufacturer, ASUS in your case.
Laptop manufacturers alter the drivers they provide for the customer, this altering is basically a more optimization for the hardware.
Any other source does not provide this altering, not a problem as you can still install drivers from other sources but then problems may be expected at any time.
