Windows 10: Keyboard and mouse keep disconnecting

I have the Microsoft Sculpt keyboard and mouse. I love them, and I'm hoping they haven't been permanently damaged because they're not cheap. So here's what happened.


I only had two things plugged into my USB ports. My webcam and the receiver for my keyboard and mouse. Everything was working fine. Until I got a new kitten. Despite doing everything I could to try to keep her away from the cables, she chewed nearly all the way through my webcam cord. Then my computer started giving endless notifications that an unknown USB device was drawing too much power from the computer. I eventually figured out the USB device it was talking about was the webcam, and that it was probably drawing too much power because of the mangled cord. So I unplugged it and retired it.


That all may be unrelated to my issue, but since then including just now as I was typing this sentence, my mouse and keyboard will just randomly stop working until I take out and reinsert the receiver. It seems to do it even more frequently if I'm gaming, but it's pretty frequent even if I'm not.


I looked at the drivers and tried to the automatic update in the device manager, but it said all my drivers are already up to date.


Any advice?
