  1. Keyboard Errors

    Dear Microsoft community,

I have been having a lot of problems with typing certain keys on my laptop.

I will hit the s key, and it spits out either fsda, fsda + enter, or jk;123.

I will hit the w key, the 2 key, shift + 2, and the x key, and they all spit out similarly random strings of characters and controls. There seems to be a pattern. Each key always types out one of two or three sets of characters, like one of the examples I gave above, that are particular to that key (one key never typing the same string of characters as one of the other keys).

I know it is not the language settings because sometimes my keyboard works just fine. Also, this glitch has happened before on my computers' French language settings too. I have noticed no particular pattern of when this glitch happens. It seems to all boil down to chance, but I am sure there is something that determines when it happens and when it will not. I am curious if any of you can figure out what this glitch is and how to fix it. Is it a problem with the software or some hardware issue that I will need to bring up to Dell or the computer manufacturer with? I have updated my computer several times, so I do not think that is going to help. I am just genuinely curious what ideas people have about this strange cyber-phenomenon, but I also really want to make it stop because it is extremely irritating. Sometimes, the very same keys that type out the random character sets also open and close windows, turn down the brightness, mute my computer and even delete what I am typing! When that happens, it tends to be the 2 key that does the stuff with my windows, brightness and sound, and the w and s keys that do the deleting!

    :)
