Windows 10: Keyboard input either not working or double typing on start menu & OS input fields

I am running Windows 11 up to date on a Dell XPS 15 9560. I have been having problems with the start menu, desktop and other OS text input fields. In some areas no keyboard inputs are recognised, for example in the start menu I cannot search for anything as no text is entered when I type, this includes with both the built in laptop keyboard and using the windows on screen keyboard. Keyboard shortcuts eg to paste text into the start menu search box also do not work, although right clicking and pasting does.In other areas within the os all keyboard inputs are double typed, for example when tryin

I have this problem where I double input under some scenarios but not others.

It sort of looks like "aabbcc" when I type "abc"

The keyboard works find in browsers and most programs (like microsoft word, or even control panel), but double inputs in:

The windows search bar

The "settings" search bar

Password in microsoft teams or outlook app

When I switch language to another language like Chinese or Japanese, the English input mode works fine, but when I type pinyin or hiragana, double typing happens.

I have tried with onscreen keyboard as well and the issue is unchanged compared to mechanical keyboard.

Sometimes instead of double typing, nothing comes out (like when I type password on outlook it just appears as if nothing is inputted)

Please tell me what's wrong and how to fix.

 

Unable to click on Windows Start icon or enter input into Search field

I went back to the single command suggested to run in Powershell. Lo and behold the 'Type here to search' field is now taking input and the Windows Start menu is invokeable! I assume your command did the trick although I did get prompted as I was resetting my computer to update the OS. Many thanks for your ardent efforts.
