Windows 10: keyboard keys opening up tabs?

so recently i've been getting this strange problem where if i were to press shift + any key or ctrl + any key, it would open up a browser tab. it would do that with google so i thought it was just a google problem so i uninstalled google but it happens with microsoft as well. i think that it is a keyboard problem but i don't know how to fix it since i cannot find any helpful resources. somebody please help me?

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

Step 1: You may check if the ALT key is functioning correctly in on-screen keyboard. It will help us to verify if there is any issue with the keyboard.

Follow the steps below to open On-screen Keyboard.

  Windows + Q, type OSK (on-screen keyboard)
  
• 
  And check if it works
  

Step 2: Run Hardware and device Troubleshooter.

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with hardware and devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your devices. Refer these steps:

  Press Windows key +X, select Control panel.
  
• 
  Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons.
  
• 
  Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel.

SOLVED: Multiple Tabs Opening in Edge and Chrome

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Your suggestion worked for me, too. I recently purchased a new illuminated keyboard and did not disconnect the old one. Little did I know that the F1 key was stuck on the old keyboard. After reading your suggestion, I checked my old keyboard and couldn't believe the solution to my problem was so simple.

I have already done an Acronis restore to two different dates and the problem persisted. Can't say how much I appreciate your suggestion.

To help you with your concern, we suggest that you troubleshoot the keyboard. Follow these step by step instructions on how to troubleshoot:

• Click Windows tab.
• Type Troubleshooting.
• On the left side, click View all.
• Choose Hardware and Devices.
• It will prompt you to run as Administrator. Enter your credentials then it will check for any problems with your computer.
