Keyboard, mouse stopped working, dust buildup, PC DOWN....

    Hello everybody,

Having an issue here. I did a dumb mistake where I didn’t clean or dust my computer in time. Just before my computer shut down on me, my keyboard and mouse first stop working. I then dusted out my computer and did a test and my keyboard and mouse still won’t work. At first, Upon start I see a little light that comes on the keyboard, but then it shuts off. I have tried three other keyboards I have in the house still the same problem.

Is there something wrong with my USB ports of the motherboard? Do I need to replace my motherboard? Any recommendations of steps I should try before I replace my motherboard out?

Thank you very much. Hope everybody is having a great day.

    :)

    Media Playback Issues

    Hi,

Just a guess... the HD7770 is possibly overheating...

Have you checked things out for dust\lint buildup ?

Is this normal? Gaps on the side of N95

Im worried about moisture and dust buildup in the screen area as a result of this !

Should I try taking it back as a warranty issue ?

Could you give a little more info about how you went about dusting out your computer. What you're describing sounds like it may have shutdown from an overheating situation. Did you simply use compressed air and a fine brush on the fans, or did you remove parts and wires to clean? I'm getting several images of what it looked like. *Smile

Any more info you can supply would help.

Hey f14tomcat... thank you very much for your time and assistance here. Sorry about the vagueness of my information wasn’t sure what else to add at that moment.

To answer your questions, I think that is correct it did shut down because of overheating because of the dust, now that I think about it.

I did remove the parts and used compressed air on those. Did use one of my suction vacuum to clean the parts of the case, but did not touch the motherboard or any type of components.

Hope that helps you. Please let me know what else you would like to know because I’m not sure what else to explain about this at this moment.

In January/February there were problems reported with Spectre and Meltdown.

    Microsoft responded with Windows updates.

Some of these updates had unintended side effects.

Some computers had no problems and others had these problems:
    a) inaccessible boot device
    b) problems with USB ports: unable to use mouse and keyboard

If you have PS/2 check each mouse and keyboard

These are some of the reports and some of the suggested fixes (using DISM in windows RE to remove the Windows update)

Thank you zbook for your help and assistance. I’ll check out those articles. I am not using a PS/2 mouse and keyboard.

Also giving an update. I have an additional motherboard of the same one that’s giving me problems. I just tested out The motherboard and the keyboard and mouse are working on that one. So, if I can’t get this one solved with the current motherboard and I’ll just switch it out.

There is any other ideas please let me know. Thank you very much.

    Hey zbook,

Update here. I tried out my original keyboard and it works in my bios, but once the login part of windows comes it stopped working.

So,Option two seems like it’s for me. I’m just not sure how to restart my computer three times without a keyboard, how do I? Here is the instructions:

Method 2: Restoring your system without a working keyboard

If a working keyboard is not available after installing the update, your keyboard and mouse should work within the Window 10 Recovery Environment, which you can use to restore your system.

Start the Windows 10 Recovery Environment.
If you restart the system before Windows finishes loading the desktop three times in a row, Windows should automatically start the Windows 10 Recovery Environment.

If Windows will not automatically boot to the recovery screen, you can also use installation media to enter the Windows 10 Recovery Environment:

    Thanks!!!

zbook I was able to figure out how to get into the windows environment by pressing the reset button three times, but there’s another problem. It tells me my PC did not start correctly press restart. I can’t press restart because my keyboard won’t allow me right now. Any other ideas?

Thank you very much zbook for your reply. I do appreciate it. I did try the windows 10 ISO, but when does keeps bypassing my CD ROM drive and loading up windows. I know from the past I have to go into windows advanced options and click on restart from another device option or something like that. I can’t access that option right now so I’m a little stuck.

I will look at your next article here. I do appreciate all your help.

I finally was able to figure it out. In my bios, the first screen that appears gave me some options. I pressed F8 and I was able to pick a boot drive from there and it allowed me to boot from my dvd. I am trying a system restore first and if that doesn’t work then I’m going to go back to the windows 10 ISO and do those options there and see which works. I’ll keep you posted. Thank you again for all your help.

Keyboard, mouse stopped working, dust buildup, PC DOWN....

It's a challenging situation as a method is needed to
    a) get to the Windows advanced troubleshooting menu on the computer
    b) get to the Windows advanced troubleshooting menu on the iso

The other strategy is to find a method to open the BIOS configuration utility.
If you can get into the BIOS then you can change the boot order and boot to the optical drive.

The hardware method to boot to the windows 10 advanced troubleshooting menu you have done.
Attempt it again and see if the error varies or remains the same or if it manages to advance to the menu.

Hey zbook! Giving you an update here and everybody else. I was able to get my keyboard and mouse working again. After doing the F8 At Bios screen and accessing my CDROM I ended up wiping my hard drive and reinstalling windows and it was readable again. I am grateful that there was nothing wrong with my motherboard.

I appreciate your and everybody’s help. Have a great week.
