Sure, no problem!!! Thank you for your advice. I have never done images before, just used a program called goodsync and back up my files to one hard drive to another and if something goes wrong with the operating system I just wipe it out and reinstall it. I have done that for years. It will be a nice to do something different that might take less time. I will check out those tutorials.

How is your experience with making images and restoring them? Do you prefer back up on a DVD or Portable device?

External hard drive. Much, Much faster and safer. And @zbook recommending Macrium is the way to go.

Great to hear! Ok! What would be the recommended size for making images? Should I get one that has the same size of my current hard disk?

For example, if your OS (C*Smile is 30GB, then the image created will be approx. 20-22GB. Doing daily would be ~150GB per week. Macrium will delete oldest based on what you tell it to keep. A 1TB is pretty standard. You could do a rolling 7 day daily, plus a weekly cycle, plus a monthly ccyle (all to different folders on same drive) and have plenty of room to spare.

Thank you again! Awesome! Those consistent backups is that run automatically by Macrium or manually by me? Now, again for the hdd. What about external hdd vs internal hdd for images?

Backups can be scheduled or done manually.

External! Eject it and hide it in the sock drawer! *Smile Part of the backup security is NOT having it connected to the machine when not in use. So, definitely, external.

*ROFLMAO2!!!! Awesome! So, if you put it in a sock drawer *Smile then you must be backing up manually? What is your schedule of backups? Are you doing it weekly, daily etc?

Daily/weekly to 2 separate externals. Manually. Additional ones as needed, like just did some massive cumulative update. But, generally, daily/weekly. And to answer the next question, FULL image backups.

Thank you! Now, I just got to learn and get used to this process. I am going to look at that tutorial, but are there any other things I should be aware of or other tips that could help me get started on image backups? Otherwise, I think I am good to go. Always questions seem to pop up, but will see.

Kari's tutorial is quite good, lots of detail, and there is always the Macrium site and Forum. If you have any ongoing issues/questions, probably best to start a topic over in the tutorial section. You'll get quicker response and attentions.

Or in the Backup and Restore thread Backup and Restore - Windows 10 Forums

    OK? *Smile
