Windows 10: Keyboard no longer works in Start menu unless I do a Win + R -->...

Microsoft:


Windows 10 has been such a technical disaster. I'm constantly chasing down problems with O365, Insider Build Green Screens of Death, Outlook login problems, and the list goes on and on. I've turned off Insider Builds permanently but they continue to come in. Turning them off did nothing.


Latest problem: The keyboard no longer works in the Start menu. Once again, I was forced to comb the web and found a temporary work-around doing the following:


(1) Win + R

(2) Typing C:\Windows\system32\ctfmon.exe


Unfortunately, that doesn't work permanently because the settings are lost on reboot. I found another post that allegedly keeps the settings between reboots but it requires the Task Scheduler, another core Windows application that is BROKEN on my computer and can't be restarted.


Someone please assist me. I'm tired of spending all of my time dealing with technical snafus with Windows--something that's Microsoft's job, not mine--instead of actually using the computer to do what I bought it for.

I am sorry to know that the Start menu is not working.

Initially, I suggest you to run Windows Update troubleshooter to fix the problem.

Follow the below steps:

• Press Windows + X and select
  Control panel.
• In the search box, type troubleshooter,
  and then click Troubleshooting.

Under System and Security, click Fix problems with Windows Updates.

Start menu is not working on Windows 10

          When you say "If I sign in under my user name I am in some earlier version", which version you are referring to?
          
        • 
          Did you made any recent changes to your computer prior to the issue?
          
        • 
          When you say “I cannot access the start menu and am limited to IP as a browser” Is it refers to Microsoft Edge?
          

As an initial steps, I suggest you to check for the Windows version. To do so, follow the below steps:

1) Login to your computer through user name on which it show earlier version of Windows.

2) Press Windows key + r.

3) Type winver, hit enter.

Start Menu no longer available

The Start Menu is no longer available either by clicking on the Win Icon or from the Win key on the keyboard. Right-click brings up the usual menu, however, and the task bar is unaffected. Winver = 1607, build 14393.693.
