    Keyboard sometimes stops working randomly

Keyboard is a Gigabyte Force K85.

I have a problem that the keyboard sometimes stops responding to keystrokes, I don't know if this is a driver issue or a issue with the keyboard. At first I thought it only happened when I didn't use the keyboard for a while, happened 2 times, but now it also happened when I was playing CS:GO. This is a new keyboard, about 1 week old.

I have installed their keyboard software: Gigabyte K85 Tool (version: 1.13)

    Firmware version: F14

This is in my Windows 10 logbook after I replug the keyboard in the USB:

  2. Keyboard randomly stops working after sometime

    Hi,

The keyboard is working in BIOS mode however in the Windows mode it stops, this could be happening because the System files of the OS maybe corrupt. Run a SFC scan and check. Follow the below steps:

    • Press Windows + X
    • Choose "Command prompt (Admin)"
    • Type " sfc /scannow"
    • Press Enter.

Let us know if this helped to fix the issue.

    Keyboard/touchpad stop working randomly

This has happened a lot since my upgrade to Windows 10, and it's really starting to get on my nerves. Seemingly randomly, my keyboard will stop responding to what I type, and my touchpad completely stops as well (no, I did not accidentally click to disable it). These problems will never resolve themselves on their own, but as soon as I reset the computer everything works again - to me, that sounded like a driver crash, but nope! I checked the driver menu and it told me everything was running just fine. What's even more strange is that I have the backlight keyboard enabled so that when I type, it lights up. And strangely, the keys still light up when I press them, so I know it's registering my typing SOME how.

You would also think that this would be a software problem since it fixes immediately upon reset, but I've noticed that this issue seems to crop up a lot right after I have moved my computer... I'm lost and I've scoured the internet for clues, but no one else seems to have this problem. Please help!

In order to possibly do testing on what is causing this (via suggestions hopefully, I've tried everything I can think of) I am purposely not resetting my computer (thankfully this is a touch screen, but this on-screen keyboard typing is obnoxious). Currently, both keyboard and touchpad don't work, but a usb mouse I use does (the computer is also set so that using the usb mouse does not disable the touchpad).

    Keyboard sometimes stops working randomly

Built-in keyboard in laptop randomly stops working / no response

Ok, so recently I found my Toshiba Satellite laptop keyboard sometimes stops working. Nothing at all. The number lock light stays on if it is on but no response from any of the keys....This happens sometimes at boot but sometimes it happens randomly after a successful boot. It can work for any amount of time and then stop working. On average though it usually happens within two hours though but can go all day before it happens again

I decided to take the nuclear option and reformat because I thought it was a virus.

So, after a reformat everything was good and then it started happening again. I haven't installed any software since reinstallation of windows.

I have another USB wireless keyboard and when to use that it works properly but the built-in one still doesn't work until I do a reboot and sometimes even after a reboot it doesn't work.

    So what could this be:

    1. My computer is 5 years old. Could it be that a dying CMOS battery could affect the keyboard and make it randomly stop working?

    2. I also surmised that maybe there was a windows update that affected the keyboard but I haven't seen anything that relates to keyboard or other motherboard drivers being installed.

    3. Or could it be the keyboard hardware itself, is it failing somehow? But why would it work properly sometimes after a reboot?

    4. Or something else? that's why I came here to ask for suggestions or direct solutions

I appreciate any guidance on helping to solve this frustrating issue

    PS:

I tried to use Event Viewer to see if there is an entry that would show if Windows has reported/noticed the keyboard malfunctioning but I don't know where to look in Event Viewer, it's above my technical ability to know exactly where to look. I have tried but I don't see anything obvious.
