Windows 10: KeyText v3.20 by MJMSoft Design

I have used the above macro program for decades for automated text input but suddenly it will no longer run since the Fall Creator's Update (v1709). It crashes on every attempt to open even in compatibility mode. I ran the Compatibility troubleshooter with the result being 'incompatible program'. Anyone got any ideas?

hey friends i just found my new frimware for the nokia 110 v3.20 and mine is v3.04 also nokia 110 doesnt have any cable connection soo how can i update it?? is it possible to update it through bluethooth ?? :whistling:

I suggest you try uninstalling then reinstalling it. I have just tested installing Key Text 3.20 in 1709 and it runs without a problem.

I have uninstalled / reinstalled many times on both of my PC's to no avail. An error is generated during installation although it does complete. Another error is generated when attempting to launch the app. These errors don't offer any clues as to what the problem is.

Just a thought, I have Office 365 and the PC's are joined to Azure AD. Do you think there is a policy restriction in place preventing KeyText from running?

 

The full text of the errors and any error codes they contain may offer a clue. Screenshots of the error notices could help. Policy restrictions may be the reason, but we need more details to determine that.

When attempting to launch the app nothing happens – no splash screen etc.. The following Application error is generated:

I tried running the app in Compatibility mode to no avail.

I ran the Compatibility trouble-shooter which could not fix the problem, giving a result of ‘Incompatible program’.

I have tried this multiple times on 2 different PC’s which are running Windows 10 Fall Creators Update v1709 (OS Build 16299.248) with the same result.

So in summary, install = 1 error, runtime = 1 error.

Well, as I said before it installed without error when I tested it.

Your install error is probably the critical one, the run error may be a consequence of that failing.

The LicInit.exe is included with KeyText 3.20 from MJMSoft Design but apparently they didn't write it. LicInit is a product of Technology Lighthouse and, guessing from its name, responsible for licencing your install.

Do you have a licence for KeyText? I don't, I installed it as a 30-day free trial. Perhaps the install error only happens if you enter a licence?

The release notes do say...

... so perhaps not all has been fixed?

One possibility is that LicInit is being denied access by Defender's Controlled Folder Access. Depending on any Policy restrictions you may (or may not) be able to turn this off and try another install.

I suspect in the end you'll have to contact MJMSoft Design to get to the bottom of this. How to contact MJMSoft Design

 

OK, after digging a bit deeper I discovered that the problem was down to my user profile being corrupt. I have recreated my profile and have KeyText installed and working correctly on one of my PC's so far. I will monitor this as I continue rebuilding my profile to see if anything interferes with KT.
