Windows 10: KT and Samsung Achieve 1Gbps Speed Over the Air on 5G Network

KT Corporation (KT) and Samsung Electronics today announced that they have successfully achieved 1Gbps speed over the air using KT’s 5G commercial network deployed in Seoul, which has been providing 5G mobility commercial service since December 1, 2018, in collaboration with Samsung’s Networks business unit.

KT used its 5G commercial network with 3.5GHz frequency, which is deployed in Gwanghwamun*, Seoul and comprised of Samsung’s 5G NR end-to-end network solutions. These solutions include a 5G radio and virtual core (vCore) supporting both 4G LTE and 5G simultaneously, and a 5G smartphone (Galaxy S10 5G). The two companies have focused on providing end users with real-world outdoor mobile experiences, achieving overall speeds of 1Gbps on a 5G smartphone connected to 5G commercial network.

This is a key accomplishment for the two companies – proving that the 5G commercial network is ready to deliver stable gigabit speeds for end-users, signifying the impact of 5G commercialization and promising enhanced user experiences in a real outdoor environment.

After KT selected Samsung as its key 5G network solution provider in November 2018, the companies jointly built the 5G commercial network, on-air already from last December. Since then, the two companies have focused on optimizing the 5G network for both wider coverage and exponential data traffic derived by 5G’s higher speed.

KT announced today that its 5G network will be ready for end-user mobility service in 85 cities nationwide, including the Seoul metropolitan area, by end of March 2019. This includes 5G service coverage expansion throughout a number of major national highway and high-speed railways (KTX and SRT) connecting cities. In addition, it will gradually cover 464 colleges and universities, subways, landmark buildings and parts of mountainous areas.

“KT has shown unparalleled leadership in technology through its 5G trial services in PyeongChang, which led to early 5G commercialization,” said Chang-Seok Seo, Executive Vice President of Network Strategy Unit and Network Group at KT. “Based on our technical expertise, and years of experience working on 5G, KT will continue to establish its 5G network across the nation to provide differentiated services to our valued customers in collaboration with Samsung.”

“Samsung and KT will continue to work closely in collaboration to push beyond the limits of today’s technology and offer a glimpse of the revolutionary world led by 5G,” said Jaeho Jeon, Executive Vice President, Head of R&D, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics. “Harnessing our assets and cutting-edge 5G end-to-end solutions, Samsung aims to be at the forefront to push the limits of 5G even further.”

This achievement is a part of an ongoing multi-year collaboration between KT and Samsung toward 5G commercialization. The two companies successfully delivered the 5G pilot services during the winter sports games in February 2018, being the first to bring 5G network and devices that utilize 28GHz frequency. Leveraging this experience, they succeeded in a live video call conducted with Samsung’s 5G network built in the U.S. and Korea, respectively. Further, the companies achieved 5G NR based interoperability test using both 3.5GHz and 28GHz in February 2018.

These joint efforts have led Samsung to become a major 5G partner of KT in November 2018 and launch 5G mobility commercial service in South Korea on December 1, 2018.

SK Telecom achieves top 5G speeds on BMW connected car

"SK Telecom has successfully tested its 5G network on a connected car running at 170 kilometers per hour, reaching 3.6Gbps data transfer speeds.

SK Telecom said it reached a data transfer speed of 3.6Gbps on connected cars running at 170 kilometers per hour, the highest for a 28GHz-based 5G pilot network.

The South Korean telco, together with Ericsson and BMW, achieved the speed at the German car maker's driving centre in Incheon city, west of the capital Seoul.

The company first successfully trialled the pilot 5G network in the same location in November. Its data transfer rate of 3.6Gbps is double what it achieved then, SK Telecom said, and seven times a running car's current high of 500Mbps.

The telco said 5G is a must for connected cars and the super-fast data transfer rate will allow services that prevent accidents.

SK Telecom is testing its pilot 5G network at the 2.6-kilometre track in Incheon. The ability of high spectrum to avoid obstacles is difficult, but it achieved the speed thanks to beamforming and beamtracking technology.

The company will showcase accompanying services with its 5G network once it goes commercial, it said.

On Monday, SK Telecom said it will deploy its IoT-dedicated LoRa network in Thailand after a deal with a state-backed telco there.

The telco has been working closely with Ericsson in 5G development, and last year announced joint testing with Qualcomm on 5G NR."

Next Generation 5G Chipsets

5G base stations use almost one thousand antennas and several radio frequency integrated circuits (RFIC) to utilize mmWave spectrum. With this next-generation chipset, Samsung helps improve network equipment performance through decreased noise levels, and improvement in the linearity characteristics of the RF power amplifier.

1Gbps Internet Connection - Windows 10 Pro

I am on windows 10 pro which shows 1Gbps network connection. Recently I subscribe to internet provider of speed 1Gbps.

When I do speedtest, I am only able to achieve 550download & 570upload. The service provider send their technician to check and using windows 8 or Mac OS, they are able to achieve 750 download & 800 upload. This prove nothing wrong with the bandwith.

I am testing using direct cable connection.

Question is any internet speed control by windows 10 pro or any other place that I should be looking at. IT is a pain when you paid for 1000mbps but getting only less than 60%
