If you use the media creator tool I recommend doing it on a Win 10 machine.

I learned last week it should likely be an 8GB key. It was suggested we are getting more versions.

Let the tool do everything for you, please.

  2. Thanks!
    - Just using Windows 10,
    - The flash drive is 8GB size,
    - Should I be using 64 bit rather than 32 bit (but the PC was built to 32 bit) as I think that this is the default settings for Windows Media Creator?

    Thanks!

The Windows Media Creation Tool will download and create the appropriate version for you. From the tutorial here on Tenforums:

    Note
Leaving the Use the recommended options for this PC box checked will have the Media Creation Tool create a USB flash drive that's the same language, edition, and architecture as the current PC.

  7. Sorry, me again!

I have a flash drive but I can't see how to start off the Windows 10 reinstall process????

I would expected you put the flash drive and the process is started - but there is no options.

As suggested I have pressed Alt & f10 and I get some options: System Restore, System Image Restore, Start Up Repair, Command Prompt, UEFI Firmware Setting or Start-Up Setting? Any ideas to start getting the flash drive selected to start the process?

    Thanks!

You just need to boot from the flash. If your BIOS is not set to see it first in the boot sequence, you'll need to go to UEFI Firmware Setting, and set the boot sequence to USB device first and your SSD/HDD second. Don't know the exact wording on your BIOS screen options, but you should be able to find it. Look for a tab that says something about "Boot" or "Boot Options" or "Boot Sequence".

Once set, it should boot from the flash. Remember to remove the flash before the next restart, or it will go in a loop booting from the flash. There's a countdown screen after the prep phase of 10 seconds, keep an eye on that. That's when you would pull the flash drive.

Might also be an option for "One time boot", like boot from USB Device.

  9. winchesterstoke,

In Windows 10, try getting access by going to:

Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Restart Now (under Advanced startup) > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > UEFI Firmware Settings > press: Restart

He can already get that option. See his last post. And he can't get it the way you posted because he can't get there. See Page #1, Post#1.

  11. Also, on my Acer, you can access the BIOS when you first power on the system, and, as soon as the logo screen appears, immediately press the F2 key.

  12. Again, I really appreciate all the help: doing things like this only helps me get better! The delay is because I am slow and having to do other things! Cheers!

Anyway, I an through the UEFI bit (thanks!) and at the Boot diagram. Any idea please - I think the important ones are:
"Windows Boot Manager", "USB FDD", "USB HDD" and "USB CDROM"?

    Thanks!

The order I would put those in to try to boot from a USB flash drive would be:

    USB HDD
    USB FDD
    USB CDROM
    Winodws Boot Manager
    EMMC
    Network Boot - IPv4
    Netowrk Boot - IPv6

Now, though.... are you in that setup screen with the Windows 10 installation USB flash drive inserted? If not you should insert it, reboot the computer and go back into UEFI/BIOS setup. On the Exit tab in UEFI setup there is usually a list of boot override options. That is where you would really want to pick the inserted USB flash drive to boot from.

If you permanently set the above boot order to boot from USB first, during Windows setup when the computer reboots for the first time you will need to pull out the USB flash drive to keep the computer from booting back into it. If you miss pulling it out and you end up back at the first setup screen, then just pull it out and reboot again.
