  1. Laptop doesn't boot with 2 hard drives installed after latest update

    Hello,

I am new here, but I've seen some helpful responses to other issues I've found through Google, so I thought I'll give this a shot.

So I decided to finally migrate to Windows 10 in January, since Windows 7 support stopped. I bought myself a new SSD drive to use for system instead of using my older HDD, which I now use for data storage. I installed the SSD in the laptop and checked it with HDTune and everything seemed fine, so I did a fresh Windows 10 install in Bios legacy mode I have since read up on Bios and UEFI and switched over.

Everything was fine until my laptop updated in April and stopped booting. Nothing I tried worked, including booting into safe mode to find out more information, using DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and sfc /scannow in command prompt, startup repair and some other things I cannot remember I found these online. I also tried these things on other installations below. The only thing that got the computer up and running again was uninstalling the latest update which would then install itself again, because we cannot disable updates anymore. Ridiculous, isn't it?. I managed to scan both my drives SSD and HDD with Windows built in error check and HDTune and both are working fine. I also scanned for viruses and malware with Eset Smart Security and Malwarebytes and they both found nothing.

After a few attempts of installing and uninstalling the update I simply decided to do a fresh install again in case something has gone terribly wrong during installation or update. The new installation was in UEFI mode and the same thing happened - everything was working, installed a few updates, including build 1903 and then 1909 plus some quality updates and everything worked fine after every step, but once the 04/2020 updates installed and restarted the computer, it won't boot. I believe the last update was KB4550945. Uninstalled it and the computer booted just fine. At some point I saw BSOD with 'Driver power state failure' error, but I cannot remember what I was doing. I think it was during updates. It didn't happen on the first install or the next one after this.

So I decided to go by the book and re-install Windows again. This time I also removed my data HDD, because some people say it is the best to only leave system hard drive connected during installation. I installed Windows, did all the updates, including KB4550945 and everything worked, until I tried to reconnect my other HDD and the same thing happened - Windows stopped booting and stayed at manufacturer's logo with spinning dots forever. Interestingly, it worked just fine after removing the HDD or uninstalling update KB4550945. It also worked fine when I connected the HDD through USB as an external HDD.

So, to sum it all up, it seems that the latest update KB4550945 stopped Windows from loading when I have both my hard drives installed.

    • Uninstalling the update makes the computer work perfectly fine
    • Removing the data HDD makes the computer work fine
    • The computer was working fine with the latest updates installed until mid April
    • The HDD and the SSD have no faults. Oh, and the SSD uses GPT and HDD uses MBR, if that makes any difference
    • There is no damage to other parts of the computer

My question is, why is this happening and why can't I connect both, the SSD and HDD at the same time? The system SSD is only 240 GB, so I cannot use it for data storage and I need my HDD. I cannot keep uninstalling updates every time Windows decides to throw them at me. What can I do?

    Laptop specs:

    • Windows 10 Pro in UEFI mode
    • Clevo W650SF motherboard assembled by PCSpecialist
    • Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-4710MQ 2.50GHz
    • 8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X IMPACT 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3
    • NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 840M - 2.0GB DDR3 Video RAM
    • 1TB WD SCORPIO BLUE WD10JPVX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 8MB CACHE 5400 rpm
    • Kingston UV500 240GB, Internal, 3.5 inch SUV500MS240G SSD this is the one I added in January

I guess I should thank you already if you kept reading and got this far. Hope somebody here knows what to do, as at this point it seems that Windows 10 only brings me headaches and I'm considering leaving the platform altogether. Never had such issues with the previous Windows versions.

    :)

Windows doesn`t start. Authomatic repair doesn`t work.

    Thanks again!!

I`m sorry I had not noticed that the text on the picture was in spanish. It says that windows has replaced some damaged clusters in "name" file and "directory". Then, at the end "an unspecified error occurred (75736e6a726e6c2e 4f6)".

I`ll do it and I`ll be updating this thread when I have the report.

I ran SeaTools. These are the results:

Does it mean my HDD is useless?

  3. Printer isn´t working after latest update.

After the latest update from Windows, my Canon Pixma ip6600 printer isnt working. In Device Manager it shows up as working properly but when I go to print it isn´t listed as an option in any programs. Troubleshoot suggests it´s a USB 2 printer on a USB
3 port and that that´s the problem but that cant be since it worked fine before the update. I´ve tried to uninstall and plug it back in but that doesn´t work either.

Windows doesn`t start. Authomatic repair doesn`t work.

    Thanks for your answer, ken!
I deleted all my data. I had have it backed up.

I did a clean installation using the windows media creation tool (usb option).

No, I didn`t. I thought a clean installation would solve the problem.

After posting my previous message, I did it.

After chkdsk, I close cmd and tried to boot and the laptop just turned it off. This morning I`ve restarted it and automatically windows did a repair. Windows has booted and it seems that the repair tool has removed chrome and acrobat pdf reader (the only two programs I had installed after reinstalling windows).

Now Windows is installing updates and restarting my lapop, I`m kind of frightened. I don`t want it to happen again. Anyhow, I want to know what has brought the issue

I`ve been looking for information about the error code at the end of the picture and I didn`t get anywhere.
