OK, HP did the upgrade. I wonder if they did an upgrade or a factory image? What was the original OS it shipped with?
Upgrade installs more often than not have issues. Starting over with a clean install often gets rid of the glitches. That's why I suggested maybe doing a Reset. It's as close to Clean install as you can get without actually doing one.
Reset is this, Reset Windows 10 Read it over carefully. I haven't done one my self in a long while and can't remember what might get lost, if anything, in the process.

I initially attempted to upgrade laptop to Windows 10 during which a had major problems, eventually my laptop disc locked, the laptop was due to be returned to HP so I also requested HP, in addition to fixing my minor Bluetooth problem upgrade to Windows 10

The adjustments in the above post I did last night, problem still exists but I could use my external monitor within 10 minutes this morning, so vast improvement.!!! *Smile

Reset, I will take a good look at

Researching this problem on the internet, there appears to be a major general problem with Windows 10 as devices(PC/Laptops) do not like external monitors.?

  3. I run an external on my laptop with no issues. Mine is USB though. It has its own internal GPU and uses DisplayLink software/driver.
I also run triple monitors on my desktop PC, all off of the one Video card, an NVidia GT640.

I was hoping somebody else might chime in with something to try.

Does Device Manager show any issues? Devices marked with a yellow ! or RED X? Might want to also have a look at the event viewer. Just type event into Search/Cortana.

No had much time in the last week to investigate further, just had to live with the problem

However, received an automatic Windows 10 update this morning, restarted my PC as requested and my external monitor automatically connected and today not incurred any further problems to my great surprise.?

Could this be a one off or has the latest Windows update solved my problem, I do not know...

I cannot risk this evening a restart as I have work to do, but I will keep you all updated in the next few days

As I suspected yesterday was a one-off connection to my monitor following restart

Today, exactly the same problem this morning, however I have noticed my monitor appears to be taking even longer to synchronise with my laptop and therefore produce display each and everyday

In summary, when my monitor successfully connects to laptop, it is fine for the rest of that day, key issue being my laptop does not wish to know my monitor the following day for a period of time, which is now getting closer to one hour.

Could the change of date be the route coarse of my problem in Windows 10, I stress again I have tested every possible scenario to resolve this problem, the only current solution appears to be:-

Restart laptop in the morning, which is connected to external monitor and check every 15mins to see if I have a display on my external monitor

Finally, I am seriously getting p*ssed off with this problem any further assistance would be appreciated

    Laptop External Monitor Problem

Thank you once again, I will explain:

    • Today 10th November 2016 - After monitor eventually successfully connects to my HP laptop, in my absence when the laptop/monitor powers off, I get NO re-connection problems during the day
    • Tomorrow 11th November 2016 - After laptop and monitor has been restarted following, shut-down, power offs(laptop + monitor) I will be stuck once again with exactly the same problem

In my display settings each morning, my HP laptop shows it is connected to my external monitor, however there is no display on the external monitor for a vast amount of time, just randomly suddenly appears.?

  9. It's not the date time, its the full shutdown versus coming out of sleep. To be honest I would have expected it to be the other way around. Normal from a cold boot, messed up when coming out of sleep mode. I don't have an answer as to why though? I'm baffled.

Discovered the best interim solution and best way to live this problem:

    • I have changed my LG TV auto power setting to OFF - therefore the monitor remains ON constantly and therefore laptop instantly presents a display to my monitor, sleep, restart etc..

The critical issues being in this bizarre problem :-

    • Windows 10 HP laptop is both physically and S/W connected to LG monitor
    • LG monitor can take up to 45mins to present this display on each and every day
    • Connected laptop via HDMI to three other monitors(TV’s etc), same problem, one TV was less than six months old
    • There appears to be raised problems generally in relation to such an external monitor problem on the WWW
    • Never incurred such a problem in Windows 7

I stress these are the facts of my problem and thank you again

  11. If that was my PC, I would start all over again with a clean install of Windows 10. I haven't seen any other reports of your particular issue, which makes me think its just a glitch with your system. Having to wait 20 minutes to use my PC every morning wouldn't last long for me. I'd have nuked it by now. I do understand not everybody is comfortable doing that though. Lots of tutorials here for info though.

Currently I do not have to wait 20 minutes everyday as my LG monitor is permanently powered ON, this is however a temporary solution which has fixed my problem as laptop immediately produces display from various modes(Shutdown, Sleep, etc..) the next day

Whilst I respect your advice regarding Windows 10 clean install, I will continue to investigate given time and explore other avenues to a permanent fix, but there appear to be a vast number of Windows 10 issues pertaining to external monitors

Thanks again, I will keep you updated

  13. Laptop External Monitor Problem

I've seen a few issues posted. I think most are driver related. On a clean install I get one screen only until my NVidia drivers are installed. I had loads of driver problems with the early preview builds of Windows 10. NVidia and AMD. I ran Windows 8 on my laptop for along time because DisplayLink wouldn't run without crashing and I got constant "AMD Catalyst has stopped working" messages. I've done upgrades from build to build and usually had glitches afterward. Now that my PC's all have Digital Licenses, I almost always just do a clean install of the new build instead.

With your workaround, I agree, you can wait it out now and maybe find the cause.
