  1. Laptop is slow after recent Windows 10 Updates II

my laptop comes to a crawl every so often and it appears so do millions of others when windows 10 has an update in the tube.

even worse - you can't turn off the automatic updates. at least it'd be nice to manually apply these updates every week or so.

the screen freezes up, the mouse freezes up, programs become unresponsive - the updates even freeze up. work that used to take minutes takes hours and i'm not doing heavy lifting - just income tax returns.

    i have a sony vaio i5, 6 gig ram, 700gb hard drive 547gb free.

i am reluctantly looking at macs after being loyal to m'soft since dos 1.0. it stinks that i just invested in windows 10 and office professional 2019.

insult to injury- microsoft throws the ball to the user side of the network. shame.

    does anyone have the fix?

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
