Windows 10: Laptop Keeps Restarting When Closing the Lid

Hello,


Sometimes when I close my laptop lid and leave the PC for sometime 3 hours plus I come back to my machine to find that it has reset itself. As a result of this all of my programmes and files that I had open when I left the device have been closed.


I have spent hour looking on google for a solution to this but I haven't been able to find one that works.


If anyone can help with this issue that would be great.


I believe it is a Windows 10 issue but I could be wrong.


My machine is a Dell 9300.

Do nothing is already selected for Choose what closing the lid does
in Power Options, let's try to make hibernation unavailable. Follow these steps:

• Right-click on the Windows icon on your home screen.
• Select Command Prompt (Admin).
• Click Yes if you get a prompt window.
• Type powercfg.exe /hibernate off then press Enter.

See if this will prevent the laptop from hibernating when you close the lid.

It's possible that your lid close action is configured to shut down your computer. To make sure your settings are properly configured, you can refer to the steps below:

• Right-click on the Start menu, then choose Control
  Panel.
• Change the View by: option on the upper-right-part of the screen to Small icons.
• Choose Power Options.
• Select your power plan (e.g. High Performance), then choose Change plan settings.
• Click Change advanced power settings.
• Go to Sleep settings, then disable hybrid sleep.
• Under Power Buttons and Lid, check if
  Sleep is chosen as action when lid is close.
  
• Hit Apply and OK.

How to force shutdown on laptop lid close ?

Hi,
I want to force a shutdown when the user close the laptop lid even if MSWord is open and the document was not saved.
Any suggestion ?
