  1. Laptop memory leak?

So for the past couple of moths my laptop has had many problems including disk usage but none of them as large as my memory leak, its a gaming laptop but it can get amazingly slow due to the memory usage. I have no idea where the source of the memory leak is, the two attachments bellow show my memory usage, using task manager there it shows that many of my applications sum up to be using less than a gigabyte. That is all i now from my memory leak and the attachments below hopefully give you more information. Thanks!

    :)

  3. Laptop's memory

    Hi Microsoft Community,

Question 1. For future reference, I would like to know how to get my NEW laptop to NOT remember who I am as a result of carrying over information. To find a solution to this problem, I even tried tricking the laptop by using an e-mail account that wasn't
in my name when first setting it up - but the computer was not to be fooled by this. Frustratingly, the same problems seem to arise time and time again. Over the years, all of my BRAND NEW laptops have carried over information from previous laptops that I've
used. It seems utterly ridiculous for new computers to carry over information from virus-infected ones. I did not want my old screen saver (which I had deleted two years ago) to be saved onto my new laptop, and I also did not want old information that I also
previously deleted to reappear on this new expensive HP Pavilion model. Every time I try to install Google Chrome on NEW laptops, I get infected with the computer-hacking istart123 virus. What's going on there? Question 2. On the day that I received my new
(yes, NEW) HP laptop, I did a 'quick scan'. It concerns me that it had scanned approximately 150,000 files. Is this normal? Judging by that large number, I'm guessing my history is accumulative. Question 3. My new laptop automatically backed up system files
to the recovery drive. That seems strange to me. Is that what is supposed to happen?

    Laptop memory leak?

Whenever you have a large non-paged pool size, that generally means it's a leak in a device driver of some sort. Often it's an older, or slightly incompatible video or network driver.

There aren't a lot of good ways to identify the problem, but you can try googling "non-paged pool memory leak"

Sometimes it helps to add more RAM. Crucial.com didn't show that make Notebook but did list some Clevo items, didn't see yours but most of the model numbers had a third number after the P such as Clevo P670SE. Some of the gamers in my area maximum the RAM to what the motherboard supports up to what the OS supports [Home and Pro have different limits].

  6. Have you tried CleanMem Free? It is designed to help with memory leaks.

  7. Thanks for all the support so far guys, but unfortunately none of these fixed my problem, my laptop's memory leak could be caused by hardware failure, i'm getting a box in the middle of my screen and it stays there. Also whilst starting up, there is a screen in which the background is black whilst it is starting up and you can only see your cursor, that flashes grey for the last week and i constantly get a BSOD from my Nvidia drivers, so if i am right about this, it may be that my GPU is incompatible with some components or it is slightly damaged, so is there anything i can do besides return it to the manufacturers? If i am wrong about this, feel free to reply! *Smile

Edit: There is no longer a box in the middle of my screen and there is no hardware failure, it seems that my Intel driver during an update was cancelled due to my laptop running out of power, I have updated it again and now my laptop is working but i still do have a memory problem.

Adding up process memory usage will never add up to total usage. It was never intended that it would. Modern operating systems are far too complex for anything that simple. There are major users of memory that are not processes, not all of which are shown by Task Manager or Resource Monitor.

Please don't use anything like CleanMem. It doesn't deal with the cause of a memory but merely paper over some of the symptoms and make diagnosis more difficult. And it won't do a thing for Non Paged pool usage.

  11. Thanks for the link, was trying to find something similar to Poolmon.exe (Pool Monitor, XP version of Perfmon.exe (Performance Monitor for Win 10))

So I have used an antivirus called "Malwarebytes" and I have found a program called "hyksound.exe" there seemed to not be any details of it from searching the web, (very little or nothing) so it seemed relatively safe to delete, after doing so my laptop performance has dramatically increased, using Perfmon.exe my memory leak may have been cleared but not sure, with a sample rate or 20 seconds and a full duration of 4 hours, here are the current results and the counters are filtered to show, non paged and paged pool as well as paging file with %Usage. This is my average memory now and it seems a lot more stable with my current processes, as long as it stays at this, I am absolutely fine with my memory:
