Windows 10: laptop not updating to Windows 10

I have tried 5 times to update my older, 2014, laptop to Windows 10. The download and installation take hours and then at the end of this it says it didn't update. PLUS, my older laptop still wants the old MS password to log in while my other laptop and desktop take the newer MS passkey. Could that be part of the issue?

I suggest creating a backup image of your os drive
