Laptop or a Desktop Which one??

    Good day to all.
I have a desktop running windows seven home premium,Also have a Acer laptop was running 8.1 now running windows ten.

My question is I will be interested in upgrading my desktop to windows ten,But would like to have some advice Please.
Which one would be the best to get another laptop or another desktop,What are the feelings of the people on this forum of making the decision.
Would it be beneficial to get another desktop as the laptops today are so efficient.

    Many Thanks.

    :)

Cannot access shared laptop after upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10, "laptop is not accessible you might not have permission"

    Original title: system access

I cannot access my laptop which I upgraded from win 7 to 10 from my desktop which is running Vista. On my laptop I have network discovery on. I can access my desktop from the laptop. What do I need to do to be able to access the laptop from my desktop? I
get the message "laptop is not accessible you might not have permission".

  3. mobile device or laptop or desktop?

    Hi,

What is considered a mobile device is typically a small computing device that can operate on the hand, has an operating system, and is capable of running mobile apps like a phone or tablet. Your notebook is considered a laptop. By the way, what apps are
you planning to install? To learn more about the apps on Windows 10, check out this

Feel free to let us know should you need further information.

Laptop or a Desktop Which one??

How do you plan to use the new device?

Please be precise as the most suitable device would depend on your exact needs.
For example, a desktop pc is far better for gaming but is not so good for using on an airplane!! *Biggrin (and the monitor doesn't count as hand luggage)

And welcome to the forum! *Smile

The general feeling used to be, and probably still is, that only buy a laptop if you're actually mobile, otherwise a desktop is better. Also if you upgrade your hardware any time, it's far easier to replace parts on a desktop than a laptop.
I know someone with an all-in-one Dell home computer and he is very impressed with it. It's fast and does the job.

    In addition to the above:
If a laptop and desktop have the same processing power, a laptop will always cost more too.

    Also:
    • Are you going to be wanting to manipulate your photographs on-the-fly, in the field so to speak?
    • Do you envision mobile manipulation ever being an essential requirement of your new system?
    • What photographic software will you be planning to use as laptops will often have a harder time running certain programs due to the processing requirements?
    • How many hours will you have to go without access to a power source *if* you are the sort of person who takes photograghs out in the country?

  8. Laptop or a Desktop Which one??

I'm not a big fan of all in ones. It's just a non portable laptop/not upgradable desktop PC. I have two desktop PC's and a laptop. I bought my laptop so I could enjoy the summer out on my deck and stay connected etc. It's portable, but only just. It has a 17 inch screen. Not something you would want to try and use on a plain trip etc. I wouldn't want to carry it around very far either. But it serves the purpose I bought it for. I hardly ever use it in the winter months. Then I switch to my desktop PC. I also game on that PC. I'm just mulling over buying/building a new desktop PC. Likely the last one I'll build for a long while. I won't buy another laptop until this one has issues and needs to be retired.

  9. Your decision to upgrade shouldn't be based on Windows 10. It should be based on the condition of the hardware. Now I'm hear some things about the new Intel Skylake processors (they are supposed to give better performance enhancements then Intel has ever done between generations) . But since Intel release the first generation of i series processors the performance gains are far greater on laptop than desktops. Also laptops have been out selling desktops for over 10 years. Owning a laptop and being mobile doesn't only mean being able to take it to the nearest Starbucks but also room to room in your house. So if you were me I would not upgrade the desktop unless your hardware is old. I myself haven't bought a desktop since 95. I bought my first laptop before 2000. If I were to buy a desktop it would probably be the Dell 27" All In One which I could use a mouse or touch.

I don't understand Dell. The base touch 27 inch comes with a 32GB SSD. 32GB??? Seriously? I guess you could put windows and a few programs on it. Most of their computers don't even have SSDs in them. You have to get in to the Alienware line before you get any real SSDs. I shouldn't have to buy a computer and then go out and spend more money to buy a real drive and install it and transfer everything on the hard drive to the SSD. That is my gripe with Dell. They are way behind in the technology.

I am so used to my SSD that I can't stand waiting for a HDD computer to boot up, load programs, etc. It is like night and day.

I plan to update when Skylake comes out. My computer is showing its' age. I think it is from 2005 or so.

I am not a big fan of the AIOs as they are hard to upgrade or you are limited in your options. Someone gave me an HP one. It uses laptop memory! I was thinking of ripping the hard drive out, taking my original 120GB SSD and cloning the hard drive and putting the SSD in the AIO. And maxing out the memory at 16GB. The thing is like a dinosaur. And it's only a few years old. Plus it has an AMD processor. Ugh. I am constantly maxing out the processor just running Chrome. But that's another story.

  11. Yeah, to me an all in one is just a tablet/laptop with no battery? Very limited upgrade options, similar to what you could do to a laptop. More Ram, bigger hard drive. They just don't appeal to me.

by the spec looks good enough to run windows 10. You can always upgrade to 10 and go from there, if not happy can you upgrade to 8 Gb ram ? get a bigger SSD, otherwise leave your desktop alone. if is not broken why fix it.

I just double-checked with NVidia your graphics card and could not find a Win10 driver available for your 6 series card. That does not mean it won't work, but it is something you need to be aware of as it may possibly be problematic. To be honest though, even without a Win10 driver it should be possible to make it work.

You can run Microsofts Win10 compatibility checker and see what it says. Bear in mind that their compatibility appraiser has been known to occasionally give the wrong info.

Type the following into an elevated Command Prompt (admin) for your system to be checked by Microsoft
Code: schtasks.exe /Run /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser"[/quote] It can take 15 minutes or so for it to do the scan and appraise your system
