Windows 10: Laptop or a Desktop Which one??

You should be able to upgrade the ram. It probably has 2 2gb sticks in it right now. You'd just have to get 2 4gb ones. It's always better to match your sticks with ram.

I also agree with the SSD upgrade. The prices are really dropping on them.

There isn't much you can upgrade on that system. 4 gig is probably the maximum amount of RAM it can handle. A faster processor maybe, if you can find one. That board is likely limited to a 95 watt processor. I don't see a dedicated Video card listed so if it has a PCIe slot that's an option for better performance. Switching to or adding an SSD will speed things up too. I have a similar system here, an Asus M2N68-AM SE2 µATX Motherboard with an AMD Athlon II X4 620 2.6GHz, plus 4 gig or DDR2. It's as good as its ever going to get. I have an SSD in it and an NVidia GT 610 video card. The only upgrade I can do is a better Video card. I don't use it much these days. It is running Window 10 though with no issues that I know of.

 

Laptops today are very powerful & can easily be turned into a desktop. I did not buy a desktop until 2009, prior to that had two laptops that I plugged all the peripherals into - worked fine. But then I don't play games or do anything that requires a great deal of processing power. Laptops now have power to spare.

Of course that's a better argument when you only want to own one PC.

IMO stay away from the AIO's. *Smile

 

Do not get confused anymore. Just as alphanumeric mentioned, stay put. Run your desktop with windows 10, see how it works. Then report back.

Laptop/Desktop -- it all comes down to WHAT you want to do with it and WHERE you want to do it.

The big gain of laptops is their portability -- you can take them with you when you want to do computing away from your desktop. Some laptops have large screens, fast processors, lots of memory, and very large hard drives -- but you pay more for those features than you would on a desktop with the same because of portability.

Years ago, everywhere I worked issued folks desktops -- that was so they could control what was on them and build in access to company resources and domains. Then a few years back, the same companies switched over to using laptops. The reason provided was cost savings. We traveled a LOT, so most of us had both a laptop and a desktop. Company figured if we all only had one machine, they would save money. So what did everyone demand when they replaced our desktops? We demanded: a dock, a keyboard, a mouse, and monitor as large as our previous desktop. So basically, the new laptop became the plugin base unit.

You can do the same yourself if you're willing to buy one of the high-end machines that come with docking connectors and willing to spend the money for a dock. With a dock, the connected peripherals, and extra monitors, you have the same functionality as a desktop.

The main downside of laptops, apart from price, is lack of upgradeability. While you can nearly always add system memory and upgrade the HDD to one larger, or replace it with an SSD, the rest of the stuff is static. You can add a fingerprint reader, or some other kind of biometric scanner to your desktop and set in on the desk; you can't do this so easily with a laptop. Same is true of video chipsets.

The final difference is touch screens. While you CAN buy desktops with touch screens, the idea of spending all day reaching across my desktop screen to touch a tile every time I want to launch something is, to me, a silly idea -- when I can do the same by clicking an icon with a mouse. So, if you are a big fan of touch screens (and some folks are), then a laptop with a touch screen is the way to go.

Got the same result.download of kb2952664 failed to run.
