Windows 10: Laptop resolution changes every few seconds - Generic non PnP Monitor appears then disappears

I am running Windows on an older HP laptop.

The resolution flickers every 5 to 15 seconds (randomly). I hear the plug/unplug sound.


In Device Manager I can see that "Generic non PnP Monitor" also appears for those few seconds, but never long enough for me to "Disable" or "Uninstall."


One time I was quick enough to "Disable" the "second" monitor, but it just came back and enabled a few seconds later.


Within the desktop "Display Settings" I can briefly see that it has 1|2 Monitor - and then reverts back to 1 monitor.


I've looked in my BIOS to see if there's a way to disable the VGA port on my laptop (does it keep thinking a monitor is connected?), but that doesn't appear to be an option.


I am currently running Windows 7, but the problem also happens when Windows 10 is installed. I have tried clean installs of both, the problem persists. It does not happen when a Linux distro is installed (my only option if I can't fix this)

'Generic PnP monitor' issue

I would suggest you follow steps to update the monitor driver:

Press Windows + X keys

Choose Device manager

Click on Monitors

Right click on ‘Generic PnP monitor’ and click on update driver

Tap on Browse my computer for driver software

Tap on Let me pick from a list of available drivers

Choose ‘Generic PnP monitor’ and tap on Next

When you are done please restart the computer.

 

Generic Non PnP Monitor problem with AMD Eyefinity


Hello guys, I have 3 monitors which have same resolution of 1280x1024. 2 of them detected the model and the other one detected with "Generic Non PnP Monitor". If i manage to combine the three monitors, it supposed to be 3840x1024 resolution. But, the generic non PnP monitor caused it become 4160x1024 resolution. The Generic non monitor detect like 1600x900 resolution. I can't resize the desktop into fill. I do so, the generic non PnP monitor went black. Please help.

 

How can I change the resolution of the Generic pnp monitor?

I want to automate browser test on a windows, and the machine has no physical monitor.

I use ssh to execute automation commands on this windows desktop remotely, and it uses the Generic pnp monitor by default.

The problem is the resolution of the Generic pnp monitor is too low, 1024x768, which is not enough to hold a browser for normal use, so many web elements are out of visible area and the tests can't run normally. We need at least 1920x1080 resolution to run
tests correctly.

I have not find out how to change the resolution of Generic pnp monitor. Could you please help me?

Is there a way to change the resolution of Generic pnp monitor. to 1920x1080?

Or how can I solve my problem with windows in other ways?
