Windows 10: Laptop screen backlight doesn't turn off

Hi, I recently updated my DELL L502X to Windows 10 from Windows 7. All drivers have been installed and Device Manager shows no problem. However I'm seeing a weird issue. I'm using an external monitor (ASUS) through HDMI. I'm setting the display to show on external monitor only. In Windows 7, everything works fine. After the Windows boot logo disappears, laptop screen turns off and external monitor turns on. In Windows 10, however, there is an issue. After boot logo disappears, external monitor turns on, and laptop screen turns off - but not completely. There is no content anymore but the back light is still on. If I switch the display mode to Duplicate or Extend (just to turn on the laptop screen) and switch back to Second Monitor Only, the laptop screen can turn off completely.

Has anyone seen a problem like this? Both monitors are shown as Generic PnP Monitors in Device Manager. I don't know if this is a driver problem or something related to my laptop. The bottom line is in Windows 7 there is no such a problem.

N79 - backlight turns off after 5 seconds no matter what configuration is set!

Only backlight turns off. The screen remains the same.



Interestingly (more strange if Nokia "has plotted" even this) if one turns off automatic phone lock, the backlight problem remains, and you need only to playaround with screensaver and backlight timeouts (both in my case) to restore "good" behaviour. Also,
the problem appears only after the phone got locked at least once.



It seems as if this is just a bug that Nokia doesn't want to acknowledge.

I did that.. the problem is that the backlight does not turn off... the screen goes black with just the time and date showing, which is fine, but the backlight is still on. In the dark the phone is still fairly bright even with the screen black. The only
way to turn the backlight completly off is to remove the any screensaver.

 

This is most likely a bug in Windows 10, but it shouldn't cause any harm. Could be that Windows 10's external monitor feature probably has different settings than Windows 7, such as keeping some power in the other screen. Anyways why would you care? Just live your life with the plug in the wall and have fun with Windows 10!
