    Laptop speakers aren't default

    It's a lenovo thinkpad p50

speakers don't work, only the headphones, and you can see in the properties that it gives jack information, which suggests to me that the headphones are default, and the speakers are being ignored.

i was running linux mint 19.3 previous to this win 10 install, and curiously, the speakers didn't work there either, only the headphones. ... they did work initially, but eventually they simply stopped.

could this be a bios thing then? thanks!

Windows 10 recognizes my UE Megaboom as a headset and not a speaker will not work?

    Hi Rachael,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I suggest you try the steps listed below and check if it works. This issue could be because of the Headphones BT SPEAKER Stereo being set as default. I suggest you to try the steps listed below and check if it works.

    • Pair the speaker with your PC.
    • Right click the Windows icon on the taskbar and choose
      Device Manager.

    • Expand Sound, video, and game controllers
and right click on your Bluetooth speaker (BT SPEAKER Stereo).
    • Choose Disable and acknowledge the confirmation popup. Wait for the screen to refresh.
    • Right click on the same device again and Enable.
    • Exit Device Manager and see if the issue persist.

    Regards,

Why may default speaker won't autoconnect to bluetooth speaker

Many thanks Iacrumb, i just tried your suggestion and it actually worked. I was able to toggle between bluetooth and default without manually disabling one to use the other. For now this one manual step is way way better than going to speaker and disabling
and enabling. Kudos ... ! I will continue to try the steps given by Greg to make this transition automatic.

    Laptop speakers aren't default

    Speaker issue

If that is the case, your built-in speakers may be disabled or not set to default that is why you can't hear any sounds when you use the speakers of your laptop. We recommend that you check the
Playback devices to see if your built-in speakers is disabled or not set to default. To do this, follow the steps here:

    • Right-click the sound icon which can be found on the lower-right part of your screen.
    • Click Playback devices.
    • Under the Playback tab, right click the empty space and make sure that both
      Show Disabled Devices
and Show Disconnected Devices are checked. If the two options are not checked, kindly click them to activate the options.
    • Check if your laptop's speakers is enabled and set as default. If it is disabled, right-click it and choose
Enable. After enabling your laptop's speakers, click Set Default.
    • Click Apply, and the click OK.
    • Check if you'll hear any sounds. If it's still the same, kindly send us a screenshot of the list of your Playback devices for us to know the speakers that your laptop is using.

We hope to hear from you soon.
