Windows 10: Laptop super slow

Hi everyone, I'm new to these forums and usually I don't ask questions online, but this has really been bugging me. I have a new Lenovo laptop and it is sooooo slow, you could fall asleep waiting for something to load. It was bought in late 2018brand new and I don't use it very much. I only go on to it to play games every once in a while and to make sure everything is up to date. The first time I started the laptop it took about 10 min. for it to set everything up which is understandable, but after that it became very slow. It starts up really slow and when you click on something it doesn't go immediately, a lot of apps keep freezing especially google chrome. the laptop was like this before I even downloaded anything. It does perform well when playing games, but that is all. I've looked it up online and so far nothing has helped. Can anyone please tell me why this is happening and what to do about it.
