- The speed for LZMA/LZMA2 compressing was increased
by 8% for fastest/fast compression levels and
by 3% for normal/maximum compression levels.
- 7-Zip now shows Properties (Info) window and CRC/SHA results window
as "list view" window instead of "message box" window.
- Some improvements in zip, hfs and dmg code.
- Previous versions of 7-Zip could work incorrectly in "Large memory pages" mode in
Windows 10 because of some BUG with "Large Pages" in Windows 10.
Now 7-Zip doesn't use "Large Pages" on Windows 10 up to revision 1709 (16299).
- Some bugs were fixed.

Surface Pro 2017, Win 10 Pro x64: Explorer crash (Windows.UI.XamlHost.dll)

The Event Logs show numerous 7zFM.exe crashing with the 7z.dll which would indicate there is an issue with the 7-Zip program that is installed which appears to be at version 16.04.

Can you uninstall 7-Zip and, if you would like to use the 7-Zip program install the latest version (18.01):

7-Zip

And, update to the latest build of Windows 10 1709 (16299.248):

l have uninstalled it like this but my Kaspersky is saying there are vunerabilities still on the system. It says to update the latest version of the 7-Zip which I have done but when l do a scan it is still showing vulnerabilities. So do you know how to get
rid of old 7-Zip. Thanks.

 

7-Zip isn't just a compression tool, it's a very powerful file manager(like File Explorer) and shows just about EVERYTHING on your system. I use it to move large hidden files for example. Plus you can set it up in view double:

Igor's program is a great tool; I am even using it myself. But I don't understand, why he really never releases a stable version.

 

It's stabile enough for "most" users, but for companies or professionals that depend on it, the last stabile, no matter how old, is more important.
Like how Microsoft has different rings now, where Enterprise get new stuff after years, or in Ubuntu based OS's there are 6 month releases only and evwery 2 years an LTS version where support length differ and new stuff is introduced.

 

Yes, I'm still using the 9.20 version on all my machines.

 

Same here. 7-zip is great. And it's even greater after reading today that WinRAR has a critical vulnerability allowing remote execution of code.
