Windows 10: Latest feature update is broken

Somehow the update gives a MAJOR slowdown on older computers. It brings the GPU up to 100% usage, and the same applies to SSD usage.

For some reason I've found the problem on my GF's computer that has Razer Game Service that made the computer spike up in usage. Turns out the problem isn't only there. It also breaks up some utilities on Discord and other services.


Worked a good 6hrs trying to figure out the problems and isolate them ... thinking it's almost impossible it's something related to Windows itself ... as it was working perfectly fine the day prior. I've removed the Razer Game Service from dependencies in RegEdit and all ... set the service to only start as "Manual". Still other problems occur.


What made it obvious that the computer had a problem is that the LEDs on her mouse and headset would change color super slowly. As if the computer was using the whole CPU power to change a LED's color.


Finaly made up my mind ... looked up her windows update history ... it updated last night.

Uninstalled latest "feature update" ... boom, works perfectly fine.

Re-install update ... breaks again.

Uninstall again ... works perfectly fine.


It smells planned obsolescence real hard in here ....
And don't try to tell me her computer is too old and can't run new software.

It is still rocking a good ol i7 quad-core 2.8Ghz with a decent graph card and 16Gb of RAM.

Intel E5200 Gets Updated, R0 Stepping Coming Up

Intel's Pentium Dual-Core E5200 processor is getting on course for a specifications update. The chip will feature in a new, improved Wolfdale-2M core, spec'd out as the R0 stepping, from its current M0 stepping. The new stepping is intended to add new instructions, power-management features, and bring about changes in the chip-package. A short list of known changes is as follows:

• CPUID changed from 10677 to 1067A
• Power State Indicator (PSI) support with Intel 4 series chipsets
• New instructions - XSAVE and XRSTOR
• New S-spec and MM numbers
• New halide-free chip package

Due to the changed CPUID, users may require BIOS updates to detect the CPU. According to the company, E5200 R0 should be out by April 13.

Fan control for 4870X2 broken in 1.17

Fixed fan controls yes. Annoying profiles yes. Buggy code yes.

I'd rather just set it and forget it as the feature list of RBE suggested it was capable of doing.

 

Is my graphics card broken?

I have a Sapphire HD 4830.

When I boot into XP all is initially fine and I am able to see the desktop.

However, when I click on the start bar and navigate a few steps, I receive an immediate white screen of death and a total irrecoverable lock-up.

I am confused about what this could mean and I would be grateful for any suggestions on the best course of action to test and repair the problem.

Does this sort of issue suggest that the graphics card is irretrievably broken?
