  2. It would seem that the 8029 (x64) driver on Microsoft's Update Catalog has been revised again. The new CAB filename is as follows:

    c0d1d982-a0e1-47ba-99dd-2f73731c7c11_430723bd43ab510e85f43495118cf03d3bd4a80c.cab

The contents have changed too. I can't comment on the 32 bit version as I don't use that one.

For this release we've gone through three revisions so far! All of them are 6.0.1.8029 but with changes between each revision. I can only assume that the changes are too insignificant to warrant a new driver number.

EDIT: As an additional point of interest, only the first version works on my Gigabyte GA-Z170X Gaming 5 motherboard with Realtek ALC1150 codec. The second and third revisions cause a Code 39 in Device Manager due to a missing mbfilt64.sys file.

Realtek HD Audio Driver R2.81 has been released by Realtek today. It can be found at the Realtek website that is linked to on first page. It is version 6.0.1.8036.

Microsoft Update catalog has a version 6.0.1.8037 on it webpage.

I could not get the Microsoft Update driver to load using device manager. It said the driver installed was the latest. I think that the driver from Realtek and Microsoft Update catalog are actually the same driver.

  5. Realtek must be assume Creative is installed along with the Realtek driver? Their QA must have it installed when QA does their testing. This is one heck of a bug not to be caught. So much for QA

  6. I'm beginning to think these Microsoft Update Catalog drivers are not the best choice for general use, at least not if you want a reliable and hassle free installation. I may go back to using the drivers offered on the Realtek website. They're not updated as often but for me they've always been dependable. It's only curiosity that makes me want to try every new release!

It's a no go for me as well. These drivers 8037 will not install. I'm sticking with 8029 until further notice.

  9. 8037 is removed from MUC when I just checked, and the Realtek site is down for me currently. lol

Anyway, was using 8018, and just installed 8029 which sounds as good/even better, I think.

    I see it:
    Microsoft Update Catalog

I downloaded the 6.0.1.8036 update from the Realtek website and it sounds great on my system.
I have no idea if 6.0.1.8037 is any better or if I can actually get it to update via cab. I see that a few of you say it won't work.
I will create a restore point then try and see if 8037 works for me.

    *UPDATE:
“Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date”

So yeah, like everyone else, 8037 is also not working for me. But, I have 8036 installed so it really doesn't affect me.

The best is either download directly from Realtek site or update through Windows Update. If you see no new updates, probably any newer driver is not intended for your hardware. If you download it from Microsoft Update Catalog and force-install it from Device Manager it might work but missing features. Or it may not work at all. So either download latest driver from Realtek or from Windows Update, avoid forcing drivers from MUC unless your hardware is not working properly.

It's true that sometimes it takes too long to download anything from Realtek that makes you think you are connected to an old 56K modem instead of ADSL or VDSL! That's why I keep most common drivers in my Flash drive so they are available instantly for installation to a customer without losing valuable time to download them.
