Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version

same here. the realtek web site has not worked in my area for almost 3 straight days since last Saturday jan. 14.
So I also ended up downloading the R2.81 driver from Softpedia this past weekend.

Techspot also has the R2.81 drivers in case either both Realtek and Softpedia sites are down (for some people).

Realtek's customers are companies making HW and OSs using their chips not end users. But still, I'm often amused how such large IT companies have such bad servers.

There is a new version on Microsoft Update Catalog. The version is 6.0.1.8040.

Before the first page is updated, someone with more experience with Realtek drivers needs to investigate why this driver will not install.

I get a message that the driver already installed is the best one.

Just for kicks, I tried to install this driver and I get the same message on all my PC's with the realtek sound chip. Started with 8037 version.

@Brink I downloaded the latest driver but it doesnt appear to come with an installer. I tried your tutorial on how to install a cab file but DISM reported error 2. Is there a proper installer for version 6.0.1.8040?

I did unzip the cab file from MUC and no success in getting it to install. I did the same with file on softpedia website and no success either. I believe that there something wrong with the cab files for 8037 and 8040 versions.

I'm on Windows 10 Ent 64bit, ALC889 codec. I've just updated my driver to 6.0.1.8040 using the microsoft .cab.

However after rebooting it was always asking me at startup the authorization to run RAVCpl64.exe (which is realtek control panel right?).

I had to untick "always ask before opening this file". Is this normal?*Rolleyes

If Windows say you have the best driver already, then probably the new driver is not 100% compatible with your hardware (the hardware IDs in the INF file don't match your hardware). You can try to manually force-install it from Device Manager, but it might not work properly. Since all you have is a CAB file, you must extract the contents to a folder using WinRAR or other archiver. Then go to Device Manager, right-click on the Realtek HD Audio device, select Update driver software. Then select the last option and then again the last option. You should see a list of drivers and a "Have Disk" button. Click on that button and browse to the folder where you extracted the CAB file. Select the first device from the list and proceed. If it doesn't work properly, repeat the procedure and this time select the second device, next select the third and so on. If the driver is compatible with your hardware usually the first device in the list works and you don't have to try anything else.

PS: I just downloaded the driver from WUC and manually installed it. I cannot judge the audio quality since my primary audio card is a Creative Audigy and I wouldn't like to connect speakers to the Realtek just for the test. Anyway, I spotted two Dolby Digital Plus installers, DolbyDigitalPlusAA.msi and DolbyDigitalPlusHT.msi. Both of them don't install and stop with an error message that Dolby Digital Plus should be installed. I realize this is only for certain notebooks that have some Dolby Digital hardware present, or am I wrong? Can I do some cheating in software (eg Registry) and install Dolby Digital Plus in my non-compliant PC? Would there be any benefit in the quality of sound or otherwise?

Any info appreciated, thank you in advance!

PS2: I had some typing difficulties while replying in this post. I had to press some keys twice or more to appear just once! My keyboard works ok in other posts or elsewhere. Do you have any idea why? Could this be an autocorrect or other bug?
