Windows 10: Latest Synaptics Touchpad Driver for Windows 10

I'm saying that after installing the 2006 driver manually, the driver was never updated by Win10 despite keeping the OS fully up to date over probably 6-7 months.

Well, for me Win10 on this Lenovo forces me to use this 19.0.9.5 from 29/05/2015 which is at least not from 2006 but if I get you right I could try to install a Win 8 driver. I am not sure if I would want to use an older driver. However should these issues of mine get more desperate I might as well try that.

 

HP Stream Notebook (Energy Star) 11-d015na. I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10 and, had to do a recovery job about 2 months ago. Trouble is, the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver is (according to Windows Compatibility scanner, it's x32. I need an x64, which seems almost impossible to find! (And, that's using HP Forums). Could anyone please help, me being of limited tech. knowledge.

It's synSmbDrv.inf but sometimes Synaptics package that file as a synSmbDrv.ini file (an INI file instead of an INF file).

No matter, copy the synSmbDrv.ini file and save it as synSmbDrv.inf file.
I had to do this with Toshiba based Synaptics drivers as the "generic" Synaptics drivers from the Synaptics support site don't work properly on my dad's Toshiba C55Dt laptop. Latest Toshiba based Synaptics Touchpad driver I can find is v19.2.25.9 from the TCH0321200A.exe file [for Toshiba & Dynabook laptops only].

 

Seems the new Creators Update build changed the drivers for touchpad because now clicking with the touchpad does not works, the cursor can be moved, but i cannot click anything.

 

Can someone say where the Synaptics control panel is in 10? I installed the Synaptics driver from the Sager website, for my NP9876 gaming laptop. But in mouse properties in Control Panel, there is no tab for Synaptics. And in the mouse properties within the Settings app, still nothing. I remember this used to be on 7 and 8.1 with other PCs I've owned. Is there a hotkey I can use to bring it up?

Edit: I see 2 drivers on Synaptics website, one is I2C, the other is PS2/SMBus. What, exactly, is the difference? How to determine which one is needed?

As of me I have a 'device settings' tab in 'mouse properties' with Synaptics/Lenovo options. As far as I am concerned I have the PS2 variant.

 

@DavidsNeD88: I don't have a Device Settings tab anywhere either, I checked all over the Control Panel as well as the Settings app. I might just try the driver from the Synaptics website instead. But that brings about the question (again): Which do I download, the I2C or the PS2/SMBus driver? It seems like noone knows exactly what the difference is, or else they aren't telling. Synaptics should really be more clear about this. I do use an external mouse but sometimes I don't feel like plugging it in, I'm just trying to find the proper driver for my touchpad that shows the Synaptics settings.

The I2C is for "Touchpads" like on a Laptop, built into the system, where the PS2/SMBus driver is for an Actual Devise "Mouse" running through a USB port. Better explain, like a Desktop, the mouse years ago, hooked directly into a PS2 port, now today it is a USB port that is the norm.

Now, I am on still the win 10, tech previews, and "THEY" have just updated my touchpad driver to 19.3.xx where as straight form Synaptic, I can only get a new download 19.0.xx
again, My 2 cents, but am sure that the driver is a basic one from Synaptic, for Microsoft win 10 devises

AnonVendetta: I am not sure about the meanings either but I would say you could try the PS2 variant as well.

 

You may have Precision Touchpad with Synaptics driver, if you are using Precision TP, you won't have the Synaptics settings, try switching the Touchpad to Basic mode in BIOS from Advanced(if it's available) then install the Synaptics driver downloaded from their site. The snip below is from Acer laptop but I have posted as an example to show you where it may appear in your BIOS.

 

Is 19.0.19.1 still the latest driver? My Toshiba Satellite Synaptics touchpad has suddenly stopped recognizing right-click.

It would be recommended to download the latest driver from Toshiba's support page for your device instead since the one from the first page is only a generic driver that may not work for the touchpad on all systems.
