Latest update bricked my editing/gaming PC.

I updated my computer last night and booted it up this morning and it went smoothly until I logged in. It took me 5-6 times as long to log in. Upon login nothing would open correctly, almost every app gave me an error. Even task manager stopped responding. I manually restarted several times but no change, I couldn't even restart my computer from the desktop as pressing the windows key seemed to be too much for my gaming/editing pc to handle all the sudden...?

After sitting her and starting to type all this out, a little windows notification popped up in the bottom right saying something like "enable windows defense or virus protection" or something like that. I clicked that and then blam! everything back to normal within seconds. What the fuck just happened? I have Bit Defender scanning my pc rn but it hasn't found anything yet. This whole situation baffles me.
