Windows 10: Latest Win 10 update disabled ATI Mobile HD 3650 display

My experience with Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) has been very good in the past many months after upgrading from windows 7 Pro on my ThinkkPad T500 (3.0GHz 8GB DDR3, etc.), which has two video cards/drivers - one is Intel (default, driving the laptop LCD when not on the docking station) and the other is ATI Mobile HD 3650. When at home, the T500 is on the dock and I have 2 external displays (basically, double the desktop space) to do things and play around. This has changed 24 hours ago.

Yesterday, my T500 installed the latest Windows 10 Pro updates and after that, only the monitor driven by the Intel video works. In the Device Manager, the ATI video line has the yellow warning flagged and the Properties message says that Windows has stopped this device (Code 43).

I have searched on Microsoft, Lenovo and ATI sites and could not find any solutions for ATI HD 3650 driver for Windows 10 Pro; so I tried several user solutions for Code 43 but none worked on my case.

Why an update would disable previous working ATI video setups is beyond my grade of understanding. Common sense tells me that this doesn't make any sense.

I need advice and solutions, so please help.

AMD Display Driver 8.970.100.9001 fails to work in Windows 10 after critical actualization of November 2017

Up to now, my ATI Radeon HD 4570 display card ran perfectly in Windows 10. But after the actualization of November 2017, the same display driver 8.970.100.9001 fails to work.

INFO from Tom: ...After applying the above 'Fix' the display adopter ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 4200I is not listed anymore in the Devise Manger. Apparently there is an on board 'generic' display adopter driver that Win 10 loads as a substitute.

 

Press the Windows Logo Key *Start + the P key and select Extend, and see what happens.
If you go to Settings > System > Display, how many monitors are shown?

Is the ATI Mobile HD 3650 in the docking station or in the ThinkPad?
If the 3650 is in the thinkpad you likely need to reinstall the custom driver package from the manufacturer to get the dual switchable graphics working again

Is the docking station USB?
If the docking station is USB, the GPU being used to drive the displays is in the docking station. In that case you need to reinstall the driver package for the docking station.

 

In windows 10 Pro, Settings -> System -> Display shows just one display.

The T500 has both the Intel 4 Series and ATI Mibility HD3650 display cards on the motherboard.

The T500 sits on the dock station via a long dock port on the back/bottom of the T500 laptop. It is a PCI bus port. The dock has a DVD drive, two video ports (one digital one standard) many USB ports, analog audio ports, parallel and serial ports, and a old-style keyboard port.

Lenovo and ATI/AMD do not have Windows 10 driver for HD 3650. Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 drivers don't work (I tried).

 

Ok, its a real docking station. Well, what I consider a real docking station, lol. It sounds drastic, but a clean install may get you working. I've had glitches after doing upgrades to a new build. On a clean install, of that same build, no issues.
Another option is to go to device manager and delete/uninstall the device that's not working. Then reboot and let windows try to install the drivers again.

 

I don't have a way of clean install Windows 10 Pro - it is all from online update/upgrade based on perviouse Windows 7 Pro on the T500.

I have uninstalled the said ATI HD 3650 driver in Windows 10 Pro, reboot the laptop and let it picking up the driver; it did and I checked the Device Manager showing the driver is properly installed. But then in the next power-up, it marks the just-installed driver with a yellow warning flag and the message says "Windows has stopped this device ..."

 

You can get install media here, https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10, The "Download Tool Now" option will get you a utility to create install media or create and ISO.
If your current install is activated with a Digital License, you just skip entering a key, during the install and it will activate automatically with the Digital License stored on the activation server.,
Just make sure t install the same version as what is currently installed, Home or Pro etc. And back up any files you don't want to lose, to external media.
No guaranty this will fix your issue though. You may want to wait a bit before you do it, to see if anybody else has a better solution.
