Latest Windows 10 December update Deleted my 4TB External Drive files!?!?!?

OMG!!! After the update it asked me to reboot. After reboot my external drive does not show anymore. I look under disk management and it says I need to initialize the external drive. Seriously!!! I had years of files and precious photos and videos on my external drive. I have tried plugging in my external drive to my laptop and it says the same thing! I need to initialize. Why Microsoft why!?!? How can I trust another update???

    :)

  2. CANNOT DELETE A CORRUPTED FILE ON MY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE ON WINDOWS 10

    Hi Leenus,

Hard drive and other external memory storage can be corrupted on account of bad sectors which are no longer accessible or writable due to permanent damage. Your device or hard drive could also be infected by some type of malware. These are some of the possible
causes why you are experiencing the error "ERROR 0x80070570: The file or directory is corrupted or unreadable". To address this concern, we suggest performing the following troubleshooting methods:

    Method 1

Check and repair disk errors or corrupted file system. This process can fix "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" error caused by bad sectors, virus infection or file system corruption. To do so, follow these steps:

    • Back up all of the files on the hard drive (except for the corrupted file).
    • Using Search, type CMD.
    • From the search results, right-click on Command Prompt and then choose Run as administrator.
    • On the Command Prompt window, type chkdsk /f h: (h stands for your hard drive) and then hit the Enter key.
    • Delete the corrupted file and check if you'll experience the same error.

    Method 2

Format the hard drive. You can manually format the hard drive to permanently remove "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" error. These are the steps on how to format an external drive:

    • Plug the hard drive into your computer.
    • Back up all of the files on the hard drive (except for the corrupted file).
    • Open File Explorer and then click This PC.
    • Click the external hard drive's name, click on Manage tab and then click on Format.
    • Click Start and then click OK.

Keep us updated with the result.

  4. Latest Windows 10 December update Deleted my 4TB External Drive files!?!?!?

Windows 7 and 4TB Hard Drive

I had the same problem. No matter what I did I could not see beyond 1687 GB
    * Disk 2 Online 1678 GB 1677 GB *

This will be a secondary drive for me too.
I tried all of the above to no avail.

When I was ready to give up, thinking my 6-year old system (Alienware X58 with Asus P6T Deluxe MB with Marvell Raid Controller) would not handle the drive, I went through WD pages about the drive, and saw Windows 7 support as long as you have the latest Intel drive:

Do I need a special driver to install a WD Advanced Format Drive on an Intel chipset?

If your operating system is either Windows 7 or Vista, we recommend the following for maximum performance in all situations:
    • For Intel chipset, use the latest Intel driver version 9.6 or later. Please visit Intel for the latest driver downloads at Support for 4k Sector Disks
This surprised me since I still see the WD Green 4TB drive appearing during bios boot disk list with 1687 GB.

Hope this helps other people looking for this solution.
