Windows 10: Latest Windows 10 update corrupted machine

We did latest update on Tuesday night. When I tried to start computer yesterday, it started with "Preparing Automatic Repair" but it could not auto repair. I've tried many of the options that the diagnostic tools present, but nothing happens no backup or restore point. I’ve tried to run chkdsk but it always just stops. I can see some of the files from my old computer but none of them can be opened on other computers presumably the files themselves are corrupted as well. These files are in a directories like “found.001\dir4085.chk”. At a minimum, if i can get my files un-corrupted, i can get wipe the computer and start fresh but none of the tools provided on my computer are helping me clean this up. Any suggestions?

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.
