Windows 10: Latest Windows update freezes at 89% mark, attempted update FOUR times!

Title says it all. I keep getting a sidebar message telling me support for Windows 10 v1803 ends in November. When I go through the update process, after all the downloading and restarting, the spinning dots freeze during the 89% mark, and does not continue.


I've tried to go through this update process four times, with the same result. Sometimes the spinning dots stop, but then start up again relatively quickly, but the "dot stoppage" at the 89% mark is final. Eventually I have to manually shut off the PC and reboot it. Last time I let the PC sit for three hours before I simply shut down manually. Every time I shut down, restarting the PC has it go through the process of "undoing changes" made to the PC.

When in win10:

• Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....

Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
- Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.

Since the update still freezes at 89%, we suggest performing a clean boot to check for any software conflicts
that may be affecting the update. Make sure that you still have the antivirus program disabled while performing a clean boot.

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.
