Windows 10: Latest Windows Update(s) Ruined My Work

Yesterday before I went to my office I got a message from Windows asking me to schedule the update.


I selected 9AM because I won't be at home.


I come back around 5 and as I get ready to go out for a bit I get another message about when I should schedule the update. I selected 5PM.


I come back, log in and do work (I'm a C# coder).


I'm done working for the night about 11:30.


I start copying my latest dev folder to a backup device (both are USB external drives).


The folder has about 1400 items in it (most generated by Visual Studio).


As it is copying the computer starts to reboot. I assume that (yet again) some update junk was brought down.


I wasn't asked anything; it just rebooted.


OK, I went to bed.


This morning (8/30) I get up and before I go out I look at my dev folder.


NOW IT IS EMPTY. AND THERE WAS NO BACKUP.


I watched the backup happen last night but now, nothing is there so the last 20+ hours of coding is gone.


Thanks Microsoft.


So now I have to start from 2 days ago which may not sound like much but it was 20 hours of work, totally gone.

Win 10 update ruined my computer

I will gladly dispose of any "ruined computer" that Windows 10 has "ruined". Just ship them to me and I will take care of disposing of the "ruined" hardware!

 

Win10: windows update stuck at never ending loop ?

When in win10:

• Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....

Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
- Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.
