Lenovo C940 - Troublesome in Modern Standby Mode

    Hi all.

    Ongoing troublesome Lenovo C940 here.

Latest primary symptoms: In modern standby mode, various background processes are incredibly active. This means, maybe 30%-50% of the time, I come back to a very warm laptop, or a hot, dead battery if it decides to do this while unplugged/in a bag.

Investigations: My main investigative work into this problem has been SleepStudy reports. When I do come back to the computer and it's warm, I produce a sleep study report to investigate. No two occasions show the same cause of the high activity though. I've attached a few recent sleepstudy reports for someone to review and help troubleshoot. You'll note the red colour-coded Modern Standby states.

I've already had the motherboard replaced for other waking-from-sleep problems (maybe related, maybe not); that didn't change anything.
I repair-installed the OS, which changed the problem to primarily be high activity in Modern Standby mode, resulting in frequently recurring BSOD problems -- especially BSOD while in Modern Standby mode.
Then I reinstalled the OS twice (reformatting both times), once using the Microsoft-sourced Windows 10 1909, and then subsequently using the Windows 10 sourced from Lenovo specifically meant for the C940. Both reinstalls resulted in the same high-activity during Modern Standby, as well as causing the fingerprint reader and webcam to stop being usable; the fingerprint and webcam just suddenly started working today though, with absolutely no change to anything, as far as I can tell...

Therefore, just reiterating, the PRIMARY remaining problem is this high activity in modern standby. Lenovo have told me that I'm not supposed to leave a laptop in this mode unattended, and that high activity in this mode is normal; even that draining 79% of the battery in Modern Standby mode for 25 hours is fine...

Windows Version: 10.0.18363 and just installing KB4532695 in the background.

    :)

Lenovo C940 BSODs While in Modern Standby

The whole thing went sour TWICE.

    I reinstalled fresh, twice...

The first time, I used Windows 10 1909 downloaded direct from Microsoft. It barely had any compatible drivers, and that was a nightmare to get everything up and running again. Ultimately, I couldn't get the fingerprint reader to consistently work (it worked for a bit; long enough that I could enroll my fingerprints, but stopped a couple hours later), or the webcam. I uninstalled and reinstalled drivers for both multiple times.

Then I got access to the Windows 10 install from Lenovo, built explicitly for the C940. Most drivers were there, but I was still having the fingerprint reader and webcam issues. Running the Lenovo hardwre diagnostics tool, the output for both shows they're not recognised. But Device Manager reinstalls both of their drivers after I uninstall, if I ask it to scan for hardware changes...

After the second fresh reinstall of Windows 10, I've started strongly pursuing the UK Lenovo retailer company for a refund/exchange, and the credit card company (UK credit card companies have equal responsibility as the retailer, to refund). But would still love to find out this is all just a fixable problem...

Also after the second reinstall, the only observed problem for a couple days was the fingerprint reader and webcam. But then I put it to sleep 27 hours ago ("Modern Standby") and came back to it today, and it drained 79% of the battery. I've included a series of incredibly ocncerning sleep study images below, and I've re-done a V2 report (Attached). Care to have a look?

As per the title: When in Modern Standby mode for extended periods, the computer is crashing. I know this from SleepStudy reports I generated. See image below.

This has happened 3 times in the last 4 days (only two of the instances are noted in the image above). The first time was after 1hr in Modern Standby, then again after 14hr, and once again today after 10hr. Notably, as seen in the image above, I tried to use the laptop after it had crashed, restarted, and then gone back to sleep on its own for 7hr, and I could not get the computer to start up again -- it simply wouldn't recognize any trackpad, keyboard, or powerbutton presses. I had to hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain the circuits, then press power again before it would come back on.

I've done the V2 mini dump report and attached for some assistance understanding what's happening.

Please help *Confused Lenovo's tech support are being useless, even though this is a new laptop bought direct from them!
