Windows 10: Lenovo g505 battery shows 255% available plugged in

Bought about 5 years ago, the Lenovo g505 laptop came with win 8. Upgraded to win 10 about 2 years ago. It was performing normally. About 6 months ago suddenly started a reboot loop with Lenovo logo and was not able to start the laptop. When the power cord was removed it shuts down and wont even give the reboot loop without plugging in which made me to think that the battery needs to be replaced. As i have a second laptop i just kept it aside without further manipulations.


Two days ago I had the time and chance to look into the matter. As there was no valuable info in the machine I did a clean installation of win 10 ver 2004. With the power cable plugged in I could restart the laptop and logged in to windows. When I removed the power cable the machine was shut down automatically. and it wont restart with the battery. But plugged in to the ac power I can use it normally. The battery indicator in the task bar shows an incredible "255% available plugged in", but the battery icon is empty. Thinking it is a faulty battery, I tried with a new battery, but with identical results. Changed the power adapter, and the same. Then searching the internet, I tried several measures mentioned there. But failed. The situation is still the same and when ever I want to use it i had to plug the machine into AC power.


Can anybody help me with this, please? I would much appreciate anyone's help.

255% available (plugged in)

Yes sir, i am referring to the battery. My battery is not attached but the battery icon in the system tray shows 255% available(plugged in) that was after i uninstall the battery from the device manager and reboot it. But nothing changes.

So i will have to update the driver.

Battery icon shows 255% even when battery not installed

As 255% is FF (hex) - all 1's - suggests a certain kind of bug...

If you have a live boot disk, that should prove it's not hardware related.

You could also try a 3rd party battery monitoring program, but if that reads the same buggy info from the OS, might give garbage too.

I recently upgraded the laptop to windows 10 and my battery stopped charging. It is showing 255% available (Plugged in). Do you have any solution for this. The laptop will work only when it is plugged in. If I unplug it for a couple of days then I plug
it in will display "operating system not found''. and the date is wrong. Appreciate help.
