Windows 10: LG Phone not Recognized by PC

Ok guys, I have been hammering at this issue for hours and I am resorting to starting my own thread.



I've got an LG G7 Thinq phone, through Google Fi. I am trying to connect it to my HP Windows 10 PC (yes, I have installed all the windows updates) to move photos, although my computer cannot figure out what the device is! I know for a fact the issue is with my PC, my phone connects just fine when connected to a different computer, and other phones attempting to connect to my computer also fail. I have tried 2 different cables and multiple USB ports.



Weird thing is, in my device manager menu, there isn't even a category for "Portable Devices", as most of the other threads I have read say to look for. Instead, a new "device" pops up under "Other Devices" as "LM-G710" (which is not the model of my phone), but it "installs the drivers successfully" when I connect it, and I put that in quotes because it certainly does not. No new drives or devices are detected through my computer. If I try to right-click and update the drivers automatically for the "LM-G710", it says it was unable to find drivers for my device.



I have tried many things with restarts between each step including:


-Installed the official LG G7 Thinq drivers from here: https://www.lg.com/us/support/software-firmware-drivers



-I tried installing the official Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit from: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=19153 . Nothing changed.



-I tried reinstalling drivers using these steps:

To re-install this driver, the following can be done:

On the PC, open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\INF

1. Locate the file 'wpdmtp.inf', right-click on that file and select Install
2. The installation should take only a couple of seconds, and MTP should be working as usual.

-Tried using the LG Bridge software, it can't even detect the phone. When I try to connect it says "[Media device (MTP)] connection is required.

1. Allow this computer to access your phone data if Android 6.0 Marshmallow or later. 2. Reconnect your phone and try again if previous version." Also some other times when I try to connect through Bridge, it gives me a different message, "The device driver cannot be found. Reinstall LG Bridge". I did and it still gives me all of the same errors.




-I deleted cached data from phone settings.



I even connected my boyfriend's phone (that is the exact same model) to my PC with the same results while it works fine on his PC right next to mine. I am really at a loss here, no thread seems to deal with this same exact problem with these symptoms. It's like my phone won't allow MTP devices.

I followed the steps here but found no UpperFilters and LowerFilters values:





I had already tried the deletion of IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and of the drive itself via Device Manager TNA.

Well, I guess it is dirt or something previously said here. Gonna see if I can clean it in a local LG service. And start searching for a new one.

If you hear a sound when you attach the device then it has to be listed somewhere in Device Manager.

I'm getting the feeling that it is recognizing the device as something other than what it is. You will need to find where it is listed, remove it from the listing then remove the device from the PC. Reboot the PC, restart your device then reconnect to
see it it recognizes it correctly.

 

I can't get a video to stream to my lg smart tv in full screen , it's playing full screen on the pc no problem

To assist you better, I like to know; how exactly you are trying to stream video from your PC to LG Smart TV?

As an initial step, I suggest you to try updating the display adapter on your system.

Follow the below steps:

• Click on the Start button, and type Device Manager on the search bar.
• Open Device Manager, expand Display Adapters.
• Find and double-click Display Adapters from the left panel to update.
• Right-click the device, and click Update.

As you are able to play the video full screen in your PC, then it might be an issue related to LG Smart TV. I suggest you to check for the LG Smart TV manual and check what all settings need to done to play video in full screen.
