Windows 10: LifeCam Studio installed, but no controls?

I purchased a new LifeCam Studio yesterday - and on the box it has the Windows 10 blue checkmark for compatability, so I assumed (ha ha) that it would work with my Windows 10 system. I connected it to the laptop and it successfully 'installed', and technically, it does work - I can connect to Skype and it works as it should, however there are no controls whatsoever. In fact, there is no indication that I even have a LifeCam Studio connected to my computer, except that it appears in the dropdown menu to choose for Skype. Is there really no software or settings controls for this webcam at all?


After this surprising turn of events, I Googled (really should have done that first I guess) and it seems that this is an ongoing problem with Windows 10. I am having a hard time wrapping my brain around the idea that Microsoft is selling a current camera that is not compatible with its own current system.

If I understood you right, you are facing issues installing LifeCam studio. I can help you with it.

First, I would suggest you to run the hardware troubleshooter and check.

Try these steps to run the troubleshooter:

• Type troubleshooting in the search bar.
  
• Click view all in the left panel.
• Select ‘Hardware and devices' and follow the on-screen instructions.
  

let’s update the Firmware and check if it makes any difference.

If the issue persists, please uninstall the Microsoft LifeCam application from the control panel and install the fresh version.

1. Right click the screen's bottom-left corner, click Control Panel, and then, under
Programs,

2. Click
Uninstall a Program.

3. When you find the program
Microsoft LifeCam, click it and Click Uninstall.

4. Follow the on screen instructions.

Microsoft LifeCam Studio

GOOD MORNING

Thanks for responding to my question. My LifeCam Studio is not downloading properly. I've tried every recommendation given and no success.

If I may: I run windows10 PRO on a Gateway SX2855 Desktop. In Installing the webcam, links tell me of the installing and completion of install of the LifeCam Studio. When I open the camera link I see myself on screen with directions to operate the installed
Camera although there would be no image without the LifeCam Studio being installed, there are no features, controls, etc, nothing relating to the LifeCam Studio.

In Programs and Features there is no mention of the LifeCam Studio Although, I found it in Device Manager! I can find no LifeCam Studio software or mention of it on my computer. I have followed the link for "LifeCam Updates", the link goes back and forth
telling me to "make sure that the LifeCam is connected". I do, and nothing happens.

Now I've done all the 'uninstalls and installs' I can think of and the ones I've been instructed to do. I've even bought a Driver Update service. So, please help me if you can. I'm open to any suggestions you may have.

A final though: Do I have a defective Camera?

LifeCam Studio - I need camera controls, etc

Hi,

The Microsoft LifeCam Studio enables you to control most of the settings of your webcam. However, while the camera is on, the only controls are
Exposure and Timer, The webcam adjusts its focus automatically by default, but if you opt to change the settings, you can take control of the device and adjust it manually.

To do that, follow these easy steps:

• Launch the Microsoft LifeCam software and click the arrow at the right of the LifeCam window to open the dashboard.
• Click the "Gear" icon to switch to the Settings tab and disable "Truecolor" by clearing its check box.
• Click the "Properties" button to view the webcam's advanced settings.
• Click the "Camera Control" tab, deselect the "Auto" option next to "Focus" and click "Apply."
• Move the "Focus" slider to change the focus of your LifeCam manually. Moving the slider to the right makes the camera focus on objects that are closer to its lens, while moving the slider to the left forces the camera to focus on objects that are farther
  away.
• Click "OK" to apply the new settings and close the Properties window.

Note that the focus controls are only available on some LifeCam models.
