Windows 10: Like to have command prompt , msconfig, and Regedit pinned to Start

Hello Shawn am gradually getting there the settings and navigating them are not so hard as when I started using the default GUI on the main laptop. However as I used to in 7 I would like to have the command prompt , msconfig, and Regedit pinned on the Start menu as I do in my 7 machines. Now the reason to use the default GUI is to be able to take part in answering queries on the forum - not that I am any great expert but I do like to try.
Now I know this is a short cut tutorial but couldn't think of where else to ask but I would like to add those three headings to the Start menu but can only get msconfig to go there the regedit and command prompt have to be added to the taskbar which is a nuisance as I like to have just often used programs on that. So is there a tutorial that can let me see how to do what I want or have I no choice but to have those two on the taskbar??

Try to run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter.

Check for updates for apps from Windows Store and install if you find any.

You should be able to "Pin to Start" "C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe", "C:\Windows\regedit.exe", and "C:\Windows\System32\msconfig.exe".

Thanks Shawn and Cliff I think I tried the pin to start already and I shall have to wait to get home tomorrow pm to try that again*Smile

 

A simple way is to open Cortana, type each in the search box, one at a time. The top entry should show the Desktop App for each. Right click it and click "Pin to Start".

 

Yes Dick have even tried that maybe something I am doing or have done as I really am not that competent with the apps version of 10 on my old Toshiba I am running Classic Shell and have no problems at all in fact it is so much easier to do things like this and more but as I mentioned somewhere to be able to take part in the forum I need to be able to use the default panel GUI to even begin to help out - if I ever can.

 

I also have Classic Shell running and the same procedure works. In CS search box type the command you want (i.e. MSCONFIG), right click the choice and pin to start. I just did it and it works. Maybe I'm not clear on what you are trying to do.

 

Yes Dick I keep msconfig, regedit and cmd on the start menu on all my machines because I am often diving in and out doing things in those spots, and it just makes for easy and quicker access.

 

There's 2 Command Prompts on the right-click of the Win10 Start button and the Startup part of msconfig is now part of Task Manager. I created a New Shortcut on the Desktop, typed in regedit.exe then I can right-click that shortcut to get Pin to Start and Pin to Taskbar. I did the same with msconfig.

 

Ok will have a look at that as well when I get home - I just like them on the Start menu because I can access those three even with tabs and email open via the Start button *Wink
