Windows 10: Line In connection and Microphone stopped working.

All of the programs I use with Line In have been giving me "Error -9999" messages and I cannot figure out why this happened.

I have several programs which all say the same thing.

All programs used to work correctly.

Even the Microphone doesn't work any more.

Speakers are okay.

It isn't connected by USB just the typical phono plug used for headphones etc.


Plugs are all in and the drivers are current although via Device Manager the Driver Details says "No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device" yet it says a Microsoft driver is installed, Driver Version 10.0.19041.1

Confusing. I was thinking it might have to do with the Windows 2004 update but can't be sure.


After trying to record with Audacity

Audacity popup information says:

9999 Unanticipated host error: this means means "something is wrong". And appears to most often be due to either:

1. A lost connection to a USB audio device.
2. Recent Windows / Mac update requiring that user gives permission for Audacity to access the microphone.

Microphone suddenly stopped working

My microphone is still not working. I even checked the BIOS as someone had suggested but there is no listing for the microphone in there.

Sennheiser GSP 350. Microphone stops working when I open any game

Wow, ok. I think I've fixed it by accident while fiddling around.

It appears to be the Realtek audio being the issue here. I don't use my onboard sound card as my headset is a USB headset only and my speakers are plugged into an ASUS sound card.

Step by step fix:

• I went into recording devices
• I enabled STEREO MIX (Realtek High Definition Audio)
• Then I set that Stereo Mix as the DEFAULT DEVICE (At this point it took over both input and output devices without my permission )
• Then set my Sennheiser headset as default recording and playback devices in their respective windows even though they both still said they were the default devices when they weren't

Headset microphone is currently functioning while in game now. I'll update the thread if it goes again. Should I completely disable Realtek audio??? Or will windows just force it to work again?
